Several members of the newly formed Commemorative Air Force Hawaii Wing, of which I’m a member, made the long trip to Oshkosh, WI for AirVenture 2026. On Friday, we gathered for a photo in front of a C‑17 from the 15th Airlift Wing at Hickam AFB, a great connection back to Hawaii.

Later that day, our members attended a meet‑and‑greet hosted by CAF National Headquarters. This was the Hawaii Wing’s first major public event, and it was an awesome moment when the CAF President recognized our Wing. Our group answered with a loud “Chee‑Hoo!”, and everyone in attendance cheered and welcomed us into the organization.

Proud to represent Hawaii and excited for what’s ahead for our Wing.

Last night’s EAA Chapter 1675 meeting at Wings of Hope featured an incredible presentation from Will Kientz on the ground‑up restoration of his award‑winning T-35A Buckaroo Restoration.

Will walked us through the aircraft’s unbelievable history — how his dad Bill acquired it from a Saudi Arabian Prince in 1976, how the airframe survived two floods, and how the two of them spent years bringing it back to life with painstaking detail and craftsmanship.

That work paid off in a big way at AirVenture 2026, where the T‑35A earned four major honors:

-Warbirds Phoenix Award

-Warbirds Post‑WWII Grand Champion

-TWO Golden Wrench Awards

It’s an extraordinary story, an extraordinary airplane, and an extraordinary example of what dedication in aviation restoration looks like.
