After years of putting in my time with a fulltime job (33+ years and counting), I decided it was time to also put my hobbies to work in the evenings and weekends, spending more time enjoying the things I love. In 2022, while making the journey through a breast cancer diagnosis, I mad
e a decision. Life is too short to spend the majority of my time just waiting to go to work the next day. It was time to spend my free time making life count. On January 2, 2023, with breast cancer behind me, I took the plunge and requested to be added to the vendor wait list at a local antique mall. Just 3 months later I started my vintage adventure! Now I am always on the hunt! 🕵️♀️ And when I find something that was once special, and is just going to be thrown away, I try to turn it into something beautiful. I’ve always enjoyed attending antique auctions and strolling through antique stores, regrettably kicking myself every time I see something nostalgic that I either sold or gave away. I get to feel all the feels with the nostalgia, I can touch it and take a picture of it, but instead of cluttering my home, I can turn it around and can share it with someone else. As I uncover vintage treasures that would otherwise be thrown away or may be hard to sell, I put my creativity to the task and upcycle them to display-worthy pieces and fun decor. This took me to my next venture and is when I became an Independent Designer for Chalk Couture after watching other designer's online videos for almost a year. I was so inspired!! All the ideas running through in my head were keeping me up at night and somehow, I had to put the ideas in motion. Chalk has been the key to combining my creativity and my treasure hunts into something I can profitably do as a side hustle. I have discovered in just a few months, my upcycled items are selling faster and are more profitable than most of my antiques. Did someone say cow? If you told me 10 years ago, I would be living in Oxford, Maine next to a herd of cows, I would have called you crazy, but here I am!!! My adorable neighbors, a herd of 10 cows, have been so fun to watch grow. I've captured so many amazing photos that have been great sellers at the antique booth! These little (or big) friends of mine have inspired me to move on to taking pictures of other farm animals too. And so, it begins...another idea!!! Now I've added taking pictures of life in Maine and great farm animals along the way into the mix. I'm hoping to share my new adventures here on Facebook along with my cool vintage finds (and maybe a pic of a cow or two) and also get some inspiration from others as well!
