Week 1 | Center Composition

Week 52: Word of the Year—Simplicity

I spent a lot of time mulling over what word I would choose to be my focus for 2026. Initially I wanted it to be discipline. I desperately need more discipline in every aspect of my life. But also, I need life to be simpler. Less complicated. Less stressful.

I came to realize that simplicity is and discipline are connected. Simplicity makes it easier to be disciplined, and discipline can make my life simpler.

So, I choose simplicity to be my word for 2026, in life and in my photography.

These last two days of the year I want to share some of my favorite images I shot on film. It’s been a lot of fun picking up a film camera after so many years. It’s a lot like coming home.

My goal next year is to shoot lots more on film. And decided to combine my film account with my regular one, as I hope to have at least equal, if not more, film work than digital.

Last month I did something completely out of my comfort zone. Portraits. I was asked to shoot my niece’s senior portraits. We ended up doing a “practice session”. While I still have lots of room for improvement, I am happy to say I didn’t totally botch things. 😂

Actually, I think they turned out pretty good for my first time shooting portraits. I think by spring, we can do some amazing things.

I love vintage advertisements. This Mountain Dew ad is way before my time, but the nostalgia is still there.

For fun, I shot one image on my Fujifilm X-T5 with a film recipe, and the other was shot on my OM-10 with Portra 400. Can you guess which is the film?
