I’ve spent a good amount of time around sand dunes. As a kid I would be out with my dad herding sheep or looking for the cows. We’d come across patches of sand dunes and for some reason those were my favorite and something I always looked forward to seeing. Something about untouched sand, the textures and the shadows that were left behind was so satisfying. Fast forward to now, I still get that feeling. Even more so when up on top of the largest sand dunes in Northern America.

Riding out the desert waves (literally)

I spent almost all day exploring around this landscape and I eventually found myself sitting here waiting patiently for that right light to hit. With clouds rolling in constantly and getting sand blasted for hours on end I had a small window of “good light” that last no more than a minute.

Mother Nature is unpredictable and you have to always be ready.

Currently in a dust storm these past couple days or that’s what it feels like here in the high desert 🌬️

This place will always remind me of the hikes my parents would take us on as kids. Still to this day we take time to enjoy these views🙌

Light painting the night away. This night brought back memories of when I would stay up late with childhood friends shooting 30 second exposures of steel wool. Man we had a hell of a time. So grateful for this craft of photography and the joy it brings.

Seeing the skies through Navajo eyes. Our perception of the universe is essential to every aspect of our life. Our language, our ceremonies, our hunting, our planting and many more.
Navajo astronomy is deeply entrenched in our culture and it’s found in many stories and activities within our culture. Stars are our ancient relations 🌌🙌🏽
