On this day in 1945, a German V2 rocket hit the Royal Albert Dock in London, England. The V2 was declared operational just a few months earlier in September, 1944 and a steady stream of these awful bombs had been raining down on London from that moment. See the full impact of this massive destruction at our website, www.eberflusfiles.com, including stunning images of the rubble surrounding St. Paul's Catherdral. Equally breathtaking are the pictures of France and the French countryside. These prints are a perfect gift for anyone who cherishes fine art photography and European history!

When we were taking Reconnaisance photos we never suspected the existence of death camps like of Auschwitz, Birkenau, and Monowitz. While we were flying and taking photographs, we shot many of the death camps while not not being aware of their esistence. https://www.ushmm.org/wlc/en/article.php?ModuleId=10005189

If you are interested in finding out more about the military adventures of a friend or family member, the National WWII Museum in New Orleans might be able to help. You can request military records for soldiers who fought in WWII and never made it home, but also for those who did return safely - http://www.nationalww2museum.org/honor/research-a-veteran.html

Beginning September 7, London was systematically bombed by the Luftwaffe for 56 out of the following 57 day and nights. The "Blitz" focused on cultural centers as well at industrial targets in an effort to cripple both the economy and the morale of the British people. One of their most revered monument, St. Paul's Cathedral, did not escape unscathed. While the damage was relatively minor, it was only because a time-delayed bomb was found and successfully defused - had it detonated, the entire Cathedral would have likely been destroyed. In our reconnaissance flights after the war, St. Paul's is seen proudly standing in definance to the best efforts of the Luftwaffe. Fine art reproductions of aerial photos of St.Paul's and other historic landmarks can be purchased on my website https://eberflusfiles.com/product/london-st-pauls-post-war/
