Captured this rainbow over the Colorado National Monument this week, and it reminded me why I love photography.

I’ve always believed in capturing real colors, real moments, and things exactly as they are.

Nothing in life is perfect. This rainbow didn’t make a full bow - I’m sure I could have added to it in Photoshop, but that wouldn’t have been what I saw.

I don’t Photoshop or use filters. I work with what the camera captures, real light, real moments, real places.

It can look simple, but it’s not. Busy locations, people who aren’t used to being photographed, and 100-degree desert heat all take planning and experience.

I’m not trying to create something fake. A photo of you alone in front of Delicate arch on Fourth of July weekend just isn’t reality. I’d rather plan around quieter times, better light, and places where we can actually slow down, be ourselves and enjoy it.

If you’re looking for a wedding venue, I highly recommend Gateway Canyons Resort & Spa. It’s luxury in the desert with incredible scenery and endless photo opportunities, so you can keep décor simple and let the landscape do the work.

If you’re planning a future wedding or elopement, I’d love to hear from you and help capture it. I was lucky to photograph two weddings here this month. Even in the summer heat, the resort offers morning weddings and small elopements - which many venues don’t.

A desert sunrise never disappoints. This particular morning out in Canyonlands gave us an absolute banger. The light lit up the cliffs, the sky caught fire, and for a few minutes everything just glowed.

Worth the early 3am alarm every single time.
