God is good, All The Time. When we feel happy, and when we don't. I know, like myself, that almost everyone is going through something tough. One of my favorite Bible teachers, Joyce Meyers, reminds me a lot that we can still enjoy our life in Christ even when we are going through tough things.
I think the key to this is delighting in the Lord in moments, being grateful for getting through the tough times, having faith everything will work out for the good, and being able to rest in God, knowing that He has it all under control even when it looks chaotic to us. It seems like quackery, but I do believe it is possible to find joy through the darkness, and have been practicing it myself.
The hardest part about it, is that one has to leave the victim mentality behind and understand that in Christ they are actually conquering the thing that threatens to take them under. This can be a hard thing to do, especially in the thick of a mess. But with God, All Things are Possible!
While doing this, and being able to take hold of these principles that make life better, we can also be a light to others. I am reminded of a popular quote:
"A thought to help us through these difficult times: Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." - Ian MacLaren.
It is amazing what doing good for others can do to bless our souls even in our own dark moments. Taking a moment to delight in the Lord and giving thanks for the things we are grateful for (even sometimes our own trials) helps to set a more positive mindset that I believe makes us more resilient, and therefore more joyful.
