As I sit here reflecting on the past year, I can’t help but think about how life can change in the blink of an eye.
You learn to navigate a life you never imagined—one that puts you in a constant state of fight or flight for someone you love beyond words, with a kind of love that goes far beyond anything a tape measure could ever measure.
Today marks one year since our sweet Luke was lying on what we truly believed could be his deathbed. One year since doctor after doctor prepared us for the possibility that he wouldn’t pull through the disease he had been dealt. One year since our entire world seemed to stop while everything around us somehow kept moving.
There are no words to explain what it feels like as a mother to stand beside your child and hear those words. To look at your baby, no matter how old they are, and wish with everything inside of you that you could trade places with them. To be terrified of what the next phone call, the next test result, or the next doctor walking through the door might bring.
But when there was nothing else we could do, we prayed.
Prayer after prayer. Day after day. And when we were too exhausted, scared, and broken to even know what words to pray anymore, there were so many people praying for Luke right along with us. Family, friends, and even people who had never met him lifted his name up in prayer.
And here we are… one year later.
As I’ve reflected on everything today, I’ve also thought a lot about how much that season of our lives changed me and how, in ways I didn’t realize at the time, it would eventually lead me to something new.
Luke and my other two children are the very reason I started Magnetic Mini Memories.
Because when life teaches you just how quickly everything can change, pictures become more than pictures.
They become moments.
They become pieces of a life you never want to forget.
They become memories of ordinary days that you didn’t realize were extraordinary until later.
And when everything else changes, those memories are something we can hold onto, cherish, and look back on forever.
There’s something incredibly special about the fact that this weekend—on the same weekend that marks one year since one of the scariest times of our lives—I spent my very first market event doing exactly that for other people.
I stood there turning their pictures into magnets.
Their babies. Their children. Their families. Their pets. Their vacations. Their silly moments. Their special moments. Their everyday moments.
And I genuinely loved getting to see every single picture that was handed to me. Because while I may not know the story behind every photograph, I know what it means to have a picture suddenly become one of the most precious things you own.
Maybe that’s why this little business means so much more to me than simply making magnets.
Magnetic Mini Memories was born from realizing just how precious a memory can become.
One year ago, I was praying for more time with my child.
This weekend, one year later, I was helping other people turn their moments into something they can see every single day.
And somehow, that feels incredibly full circle.
Life can change in the blink of an eye.
Take the pictures.
Capture the ordinary moments.
Hold onto the memories.
Because someday, you may realize those little moments were never really little at all. ❤️
One year later, I have so much to be thankful for—and a completely different understanding of just how precious a memory truly is.
