Moab Adventure — Day 3

Today we decided to explore some of the dinosaur history around Moab, and it ended up being such a fun day.

Our first stop was Mill Canyon Dinosaur Tracksite 🦕 Fun fact: this site has over 200 preserved dinosaur tracks from the Early Cretaceous period — around 112 million years old. It was incredibly cool to see actual dinosaur footprints in person and imagine these giant animals walking through the area millions of years ago.

The kids thought the coolest part was being able to touch dinosaur bones still visible in the cliffs. Which made it all feel even more real.

After that, we stopped to check out the ancient writing on the rock walls. Seeing petroglyphs and pictographs that have survived for hundreds (and in some cases thousands) of years was pretty amazing.

Next up was our hike to Corona Arch. This ended up being such a great hike with incredible views the whole way. The hike is about 3 miles round trip and includes some climbing, a cable section, and a ladder, which made it extra fun for the kids. Corona Arch is one of the largest arches near Moab, and seeing it up close was definitely worth it.

The only challenge? The heat 🥵 It was HOT, and by the end of the hike everyone was definitely ready to cool down. So after all that exploring, we headed straight back to the campground and cooled off in the pool.

We ended the day at Dead Horse Point, watching the sunset and staying for some stargazing. The views were absolutely incredible, and seeing the stars come out over the canyon was the perfect way to end our last day in Moab.

Sorry we’ve been a little quiet over here! ❤️

We’re doing well and still out enjoying this adventure as a family. Life on the road has been busy (and a little chaotic at times 😅), so social media has taken a back seat.

Thank you for checking in and following along. We have so much to share and can’t wait to catch you up on all our travels soon!

Moab Adventure — Day 2: Canyonlands National Park

We were up again at 5 a.m. to beat the heat… or at least that was the plan. When we stepped outside, we quickly realized it was actually a pretty chilly morning!

Our first stop was Canyonlands National Park. We headed straight for Mesa Arch, one of the park’s most famous viewpoints. On the way, we spotted a rabbit hopping along the trail, which we all were very excited about.

The arch itself was incredible, but Mila and Mason probably enjoyed exploring the surrounding even more. Mason even found a spot that he was convinced looked like a king’s throne.

After Mesa Arch, we drove over to Grand View Point. The views were absolutely massive and made us feel tiny compared to the endless canyons stretching out below. It’s hard to capture just how big everything feels out there.

By then, everyone was ready to warm up a bit, so we headed to the visitor center. Mila and Mason earned another Junior Ranger badge. Their collection is growing quickly, and they love every single one.

The rest of the day was a little less adventurous but just as important. We spent time back at the campground doing laundry, relaxing, and letting the kids enjoy the pool.

After dinner, Daddy headed back out with his camera to catch sunset and moonlight photos at North Window, South Window, and Balanced Rock. Not a bad way to end another amazing day in Moab.

Eighth stop on our camper adventure: Moab, Utah - 4 nights - Day 1 Arches National Park 🏜️

We woke up at 5 a.m. to beat the heat, and we’re glad we did. We learned pretty quickly when we arrived at the campground that Moab gets HOT this time of year.

Our first hike of the day was to Delicate Arch, the most famous arch in the park and one of the most recognizable landmarks in the entire country. The hike was challenging at times and there was a bit complaining from Mason in the beginning but soon got over it and did awesome. They kept themselves motivated by playing in the sand and searching for cactuses.

Seeing Delicate Arch in person was absolutely worth it. Pictures don’t really do it justice.

Next, we headed over to Sand Dune Arch, which ended up being one of our favorite stops of the day. Hidden between towering sandstone walls and surrounded by soft sand, it felt almost magical. The kids loved exploring the sandy area and climbing on some huge boulders nearby, which might have been their favorite part of the whole stop.

After that, we hiked to Double Arch, which was another huge hit. Fun fact: Double Arch is the tallest and second-longest arch in Arches National Park, and standing underneath it makes you feel tiny! The kids had fun scrambling around the rocks and checking it out from different angles.

By that point, everyone was pretty much done for the day so we headed to the visitor center. There, Mila and Mason earned yet another Junior Ranger badge. They’re becoming quite the collection and the kids are incredibly proud of them.

Between the early wake-up call, incredible arches, endless red rocks, giant boulders, and another Junior Ranger badge, Arches National Park was an amazing start to our time in Moab ❤️

On our way from Mesa Verde to Moab, we made a stop at Hole N” The Rock without really knowing what to expect—and it turned out to be one of the quirkiest roadside attractions we’ve visited so far.

At first, we weren’t sure if we’d do the tour, but once we learned that Albert had Danish roots, we knew we had to. As a Danish family we couldn’t pass up the chance to learn more about the man behind this incredible place.

Built into a massive 5,000-square-foot rock, Hole N” The Rock is a unique home carved by hand by Albert. Inspired by his determination and craftsmanship, he spent 12 years carving the home directly into the sandstone. The finished house includes 14 rooms, fireplaces, a chimney, and even a bathtub carved from the rock itself.

One of the more memorable sights inside was Albert’s very first taxidermy project—their beloved donkey. Although, our whole family agreed it looked a lot more like a llama! We all thought it was a bit creepy.

After Albert’s death, his wife Gladys continued sharing their story with visitors. Today, the home remains largely preserved just as Gladys left it when she passed away, offering a fascinating glimpse into their lives and the vision they brought to life in the Utah desert.

Unfortunately, photos aren’t allowed inside the home, but here are a few shots from the outside to give you a glimpse of this unique place.

It was a surprisingly interesting stop for both us and the kids. Between the fascinating history, the hand-carved home, and all the quirky details throughout the tour, there was something for everyone to enjoy. If you’re ever passing by on your way to or from Moab, we’d definitely recommend stopping in and taking the tour.

It ended up being one of those unexpected road trip stops that reminded us that some of the best travel memories come from places you never planned on visiting.

Sixth stop on our camper adventure: Great Sand Dunes National Park - 3 nights

The kids had been excited about the sand dunes for a while, and they were definitely not disappointed.

Great Sand Dunes is home to the tallest sand dunes in North America, with some reaching over 750 feet tall. Seeing them in person was incredible. The dunes seem to go on forever, and they make you feel very small.

We rented sand boards and spent a couple of hours sliding down the dunes. It was so much fun! Getting down was easy… getting back up was another story. Walking in deep sand is no joke 😅

The only one who actually made it all the way to the top was Daddy. He got up at 3 a.m. to hike up in the dark and take sunrise pictures over the dunes.

One of the highlights for the kids was earning their very first Junior Ranger badges. Mila and Mason completed their activities and were so proud to be officially sworn in as Junior Rangers.

We also hiked Zapata Falls. The hike itself was beautiful, and reaching the waterfall hidden inside the narrow canyon felt like discovering a secret spot. The water at the falls was absolutely freezing 🥶, but it felt pretty refreshing after a morning spent climbing and sliding on sand.

Between the giant dunes, sand boarding, their first Junior Ranger badges, the ice-cold waterfall, and some amazing views, we are very happy we decided to visit the dunes ❤️
