Recent research shows that while people recognize photographs of real women as more authentic, they rate fabricated artificial intelligence images as more sexually attractive. Age also plays a major role in shaping these modern visual preferences.

“There is no truth in photography. There is no truth about anyone’s person.”
– Richard Avedon

He said this in 1984. Pre-(digital)retouching, pre-AI, pre-filters.

A photograph, untouched, is still surrounded by suggestions. Whether it be lighting, camera angle, lens choice, pose, clothing, make up, surroundings or overall feel and look. Add a pinch of all of these together and you'll arrive at the artistic depth that you are searching for.

"SEE THE LIGHT"

My chest has felt out of place this entire day due to yesterday's loss of JT Smith.

He is the creator of Supershoots photography workshops.

I have been with JT at 44 events. 42 of which I was a mentor and instructor. It is the very reason I kept making images after getting my first camera. It was the countless conversations with JT that opened my mind and eyes up to what light does and what we can do with it. As JT always said "SEE THE LIGHT".

JT gave me a chance at my 3rd event in 2008 to teach my post production knowledge to others. It went quite well, obviously, since I did it 42 more times! (I can not wrap my head around that number...all the experiences...travels...conversations...sushi and shenanigans!)

JT's dream to make Supershoots made many of our own dreams come alive as well. His relentless pursuit to learn and teach photography has passed onto many of us. We're out here...thinking in light... SEEING THE LIGHT!

Rest peacefully JT. You've made a mark in the hearts of many.

Group photo is Peoria Supershoots, 2015.
