September Updates:

I'm learning how to develop my own film! This is the project I am most excited about. I've been shooting more film lately and now I want to learn what to do after I shoot a roll. Instead of sending it off to a lab and it costing a ton of money, I'm going to start doing it myself.

I'm going to attempt Milky Way photos for the 2nd time (the first time was unsuccessful). The new moon is September 10th & we'll see if I can get the shot. Stay tuned.

My state fair photos are coming back. This time I actually didn't forget my tripod! If you've been following along, you'll remember my Howard County 4H Fair photos. They were shaky but cool. I used a new film stock & exprimented a little. We'll see how my photos turned out this time!

We are offically at 166 followers! This may not be alot in the eyes of social media but it means the world to me. That means 166 people are excited about my work and I appriciate every one!

📸 16 deserves more than a few birthday pictures. So obviously we had to turn it into a whole moment. A cute outfit, a little birthday glam, me behind the camera, and a great model in front of the camera.

This shoot was purely for fun, and honestly, those are sometimes my favorite ones. No pressure. Just getting creative, trying things, and making her 16th birthday feel a little extra special. And these photos?! Yeahhhh. They deserved their own photo dump.

I've waited for clouds to pass. I've waited an hour for the sun to rise. I've waited until the fog clears. I've driven home empty handed with no photos to show from my excursion. I've gone to the same location multiple times just to make sure the conditions are right.

Nature doesn't work on our schedule. We work on hers.

📸 Here is a before & after of a waterfall I shot in Tennessee. I used Lightroom to edit out the blurry people. This was in the middle of the day and there were a ton of people in the waterfall but that didn't stop me from getting a good picture. Sometimes you just need some tools to help you achieve the look you're going for.

📸 A day in my life with a photoshoot.

It was a lot of chaos but that’s the part I love. There’s something so satisfying about going from an idea in my head to setting things up to getting behind the camera to editing then finally seeing the pictures.

A little creativity and one photoshoot later, I’d say it’s worth it.

📸 I went to the Howard County 4H fair with a plan. I met up with a friend and already warned her about the photos I wanted to get. Once I got there, we headed straight for the rides. I wasn't there just to photograph them, though. I wanted to capture the movement of the spinning lights, the blur, and that feeling of motion you get while on a fun ride. And I decided to shoot it all on film and use a film stock I haven't used before.

There was one small problem though. I forgot my tripod. 🤦‍♀️

Normally, that wouldn't be the end of the world but I wanted long exposures. So there I was, shooting one-second exposures handheld and hoping I could stay still enough to get something usable.

Film made the whole process even more interesting. There was no screen on the back of the camera to check my work. I had to pull out my light meter every time, take a reading for each shot, choose my settings, take the photo and trust that I got it right.

I couldn't go home, load the photos onto my computer, and see what I captured. I had to drop the film off and wait 14 days to get the images back. For two weeks, I had absolutely no idea if my handheld-long-exposure experiment had worked. And THAT might be one of my favorite things about shooting film.
