I’m looking through the archives to find images to use in my picture book. I found these classic images from one of the last Louie Louie Parades in Philadelphia.
On May 10, 1987, I photographed the third annual Louie Louie Parade as it took over Pattison Avenue, bringing an unforgettable wave of music and energy to South Philly. The celebration marched all the way to the parking lot of JFK Stadium, where a crowd of 50,000 showed up for the legendary event.
It ended up being one of my last photo shoots for the station at the time — just a week later I gradated from University of the Arts and I was hired as a photojournalist at the Bucks County Courier Times, then in late June I joined The as one of their youngest contract photographers ever.
Leading the party was John DeBella from the Morning Zoo, turning the day into a full-blown tribute to one of rock’s most iconic songs.
If you were there, you already know — it wasn’t just a parade, it was a moment. 🎸
