Tomorrow at 11am EST on WGXC 90.7 FM (Catskill, NY), Uncontaminated Sound welcomes photographer, visual storyteller, and documentary cinematographer Rafael de la Uz.
With more than two decades of experience across photography and film, Rafael’s work lives at the intersection of narrative, environmental crisis, and human connection. His current Pulitzer Center–supported project, Trouble at Sea, is an in-depth visual investigation into the ecological collapse facing wild salmon and the communities whose lives and identities are shaped by them.
We’ll talk about long-form visual storytelling, building trust in documentary work, photographing environmental loss without exploitation, and what it means to slow down and truly see the stories unfolding in front of us. Rafael has directed photography for PBS’s American Experience, with films including The Vote, Rachel Carson, and Edison, and his cinematography has appeared on HBO, Discovery Times, WGBH, Canal Plus, and TVE. His photography has been exhibited internationally and supported by institutions including the Pulitzer Center and the Rasmuson Foundation.
