Thank you to DO NOT DISTURB for giving me my very first award as an artist!!
My abstract erotica video art piece, Vein Velvet, is an amalgamation of my fascination with horror, s*x, and the headless female form. I’ve always been intrigued by the challenge of expressing emotion through the body alone, without facial expressions to guide the viewer.
Vein Velvet is largely inspired by my fixation with the line between arousal and repulsion. My favorite book of all time, Story of the Eye by Georges Bataille, introduced me to this feeling. We can be simultaneously captivated and disgusted. It is a tension that reveals as much about our desires as it does our discomfort.
I’m incredibly grateful to have been included in this festival and honored that Vein Velvet was received the way I intended. Thank you to everyone who came out to experience not only my film, but the many other incredible works that made this event so special.
