2684. “This might sound weird, but I’ve never been interested in what already exists; I’ve always been interested in what can.” When Troy Hollerman first went to college, he tried his hand at Biomedical Engineering, but really disliked the rigidness of the subject. As someone who’s always been more interested in new concepts and ideas, he eventually stumbled upon the right path thanks to his barber. After she mentioned that her daughter was attending the art institution, , in Indianapolis, IN, Troy looked into the school as well and enrolled in their Photography program. During his junior year there, he then felt like he wanted to pursue teaching as a career so he looked into graduate school programs and landed at here in Philly. Troy obtained his master’s in Photography and also became a certified teacher, leading him to land positions as an adjunct professor at and . “It seems really linear even though it’s been super choppy.” Though he’s now reached his goal of teaching others, Troy has traveled a path that’s been full of stressful times. From hauling scrap wood back to his apartment just to have art canvases to taking odd jobs, such working at an insectarium, and another artist’s studio (his current side gig), Troy is doing his best to continue his art career and hopes to enable the next generation of artists as a result! Awesome meeting you and keep it up, !
