Fun Fact: while some people might be fooled into thinking it's the Cardinal (based on the NFL team), the Arizona state bird is actually the Cactus Wren! This piece features one I saw perched on a saguaro while exiting the US-60 in Mesa, Arizona.

In all seriousness, it brought me so much joy when this momma duck brought her ducklings (there were two, I promise) to forage just feet away from my board.

I came to the lake for some much-needed sunshine and self-regulation, and left reminded how deeply I love feeling connected to the creatures of this world. In the Superstition Mountains, outside of Phoenix, I’ve had close encounters with deer, longhorn steer, a bobcat, birds of prey, and countless other desert wanderers, and the excitement never fades.

This place and its inhabitants inspire me daily with their beauty and resilience. We are not apart from nature; we are a part of nature 🌎🫶

The struggle of having aggressive ADHD as a hiker and photographer means often showing up to the trailhead only to realize I've forgotten my memory cards, the battery is dead, or I just plain left my camera at home 🤦‍♀️ these photos from my phone are decent enough to share online, but they won't be the high quality prints they could've been 🥲 what thing do you kick yourself for forgetting at home?

I recently came out the other side of a year-long litigation that drained me of mind, body, soul… and savings.

So naturally, I did the most reasonable thing I could: got in my car and drove 3+ hours until I landed in 📍Bisbee, Arizona for the very first time.
From chatting with Nila at Wolfbone Emporium (a wonderfully witchy woman with the best Aussie accent), to randomly meeting my Airbnb host, Tamara, and instantly hitting it off, to finding myself laughing and swapping stories with Mike from NYC at Legions Bar & Grill… it all felt like kismet.

This little mining town is creative, warm, magical, and full of characters. It felt like that moment you realize your shoulders have hiked up to your ears and finally let them down.

24 hours wasn’t nearly enough. I’ll be back!

Anyway… I passed this little blue building and felt like it had so much personality, it just needed a little something ✨
