[OUR FIRST VLOG!]

But first, story time. Once upon a backpacking trip, we stumbled upon the most pristine campsite by an alpine lake in a meadow below the Buffalo Peaks. The remote campsite even had a perfectly cut & stacked pile of firewood! Usually this would be a gift from God for us tired and weary backpackers. But alas, a stage 2 fire ban was in effect, so we had to forego the temptation of having a fire.

Fast forward 2 weeks, and the Weston Pass Fire broke out mere miles from our campsite! What if we burned those tempting logs in our fire pit? Other campers around us were having fires. Bottom line, it isn't worth it! When there's fire restrictions, please follow them and help protect our wonderful state!

Sorry for the social media hiatus lately. Real life took precedence for the last few weeks. We've both been very busy with work, and we moved houses. We are daydreaming of remote wilderness views like these, and hope to get back to them soon! Alix is working hard to finish editing the vlog from this backpacking trip and it will be on our website soon. 😊

A trip to Crested Butte has become an annual pilgrimage for us over the last few years. We camp at the same spot every time, and although this weekend was twice as busy as we've ever seen it, we still enjoyed biking from camp to town, running through thick aspen groves, and soaking our sore legs and dirt-caked hair in the river by camp.

As the ever-increasing Front Range population diffuses further into the mountains to seek adventure, CB is losing a bit of its remote mountain town vibes (the ski resort was just bought by Vail even). But there are more than enough trails and campsites to share in this epic region.

This photo was taken on our first night of camping this year back in April at Penitente Canyon. Now we've camped 5 nights total, which is a lot for us by June! 🏕

Lately, Colorado Springs seems hotter and more crowded than ever before.

Good thing finding complete solitude is as easy as driving 2 hours and backpacking 6 miles in to this high alpine meadow! 🙌🏼⛰🏕

The famous Crystal Mill was on our summer bucket list, and Memorial Day weekend seemed like the perfect time to drive 5 hours + 1 hour of a 4WD to get there! Our little stock Jeep Cherokee made the drive and got us up to a super remote and beautiful campsite!

We came for the Mill, which tons of people drove/hiked to and then went home. But after spending 2 nights in the area, we really fell in love with the ghost town of Crystal (which is inhabited!) and the wild, rugged beauty of the area. It was like stepping back in time to fewer people, no amenities, and no screens or internet. We talked to the locals about the weather and trail beta. We woke up with the sun and walked all day just because we could. We walked a mile to town 3 times just to chat with locals and see Crystal Mill at different times of the day.

Sure, we could have checked this off our bucket list with just this picture, but now we have much more to remember this landmark by. We'll be posting more pictures this week, and a Weekend Wanderings trip report on the blog soon!

Oh Springtime in Colorado. Such a tease. Beautiful 70-degree days make you envision days like these in the high mountains. Then freak snowstorms ruin the party and push the thoughts of hiking snow-free 14ers weeks into the future. ☀️🌨😩
