Turn on the news, scroll social media for five minutes, and suddenly it feels like the world is falling apart.

But then I look at this. And I’m reminded that there is still so much beauty here. Happiness. Laughter.

A beautiful life.
A beautiful world.
And people worth loving with your whole heart.

A year and a half ago, one of my worst photography nightmares came to life.

I walked into my office and found the external hard drive that held every current gallery I was working on… lying on the floor.

I took a deep breath and told myself it would be fine. Drives get bumped. Things happen.

But it wasn’t fine.

I called tech friends. Mobile support. Anyone who might have an answer.

Every conversation ended the same way…

“The files are gone.”

As a last hope, I shipped the drive to a recovery company in Georgia.

Two weeks later, they called.

Nothing.

No recoverable files. No galleries. No backups.

Just gone.

At that point, every gallery had already been delivered except one.

Logan’s first birthday.

I remember feeling sick. Embarrassed. Frozen.

I expected anger.
A refund request.
A bad review.

Instead, I was met with kindness.

Grace.

Understanding.

A year and a half later I got the chance to pay that kindness forward when I spent an afternoon documenting the Scheetz family in their home.

And honestly, these photos mean more to me than if the original gallery had never been lost at all.

Because sometimes the things we remember most aren’t the mistakes.

They’re the people who show us grace when we make them.

Once I realized I wasn’t for everyone, I stopped trying to be.

The most freeing thing you can do is allow yourself to be exactly who you are. As an artist. As a business owner. As a human.

The people you’re meant for will find you.

I have this theory…

Boys grow up and build lives of their own. Girls do too, but somehow they always seem to find their way back to their mothers.

Not because the relationship is always easy or perfect. It isn’t.

But there is something sacred about the bond between a mother and daughter.

I find so much peace in knowing that, if I’m lucky, I’ll get to walk beside my girls through so many of life’s biggest moments. The heartbreaks. The celebrations. The losses. The uncertainty. The weddings. The babies.

One day they may not need me to tie their shoes, push them on the swings, or carry them to bed.

But I hope they still need me for the things that matter.

And maybe that’s why photographs like these feel so important.
