Puppy photos.

They're important because every dog grows up too quickly. Your dog won't have those big goofy legs, ears and paws for long, so don't wait.

Plan ahead, and make sure you get photos of your puppy while they're still goofy, unwieldy, untrained, and chaotic. Yes, they might p*e in the studio, yes they probably won't sit still, and yes they will sleep like a baby after their photoshoot. ( Photoshoots are great for wearing our dogs of all ages).

Most importantly, don't put it off.
You will never regret puppy photos!

A quick shoutout to a pup I'm incredibly proud of, TJ the Beagi. ( Part beagle part Corgi).

I've had the pleasure of working with this little furball for almost two years now, with varying levels of success. He's got a lot of personality in his little self, and is incredibly selective of what he will stand on.
(TJ hates seamless paper)

What we've learned is that he dose better is that he dose better when he has something soft to sit on, and he can have an are free of distractions. TJ is Mr. Social, so when there are a lot of dogs around he makes it his job to welcome everyone to the space and make sure people know there are new arrivals.

The most important lesson TJ has taught me as a pet photographer (and he helps me learn it again every time we work together) is that it's my job to meet your dog where they are and learn to work with them. We're not magically going to create spectacular images if we're not aware of what makes your dog who they are, and make changes to the set, environment, or way we are engaging with them to make the experience as comfortable as possible.

Quick edit from today's shoot. I had the opportunity to work with Going Home Greyhounds again this afternoon and photograph some of the organization's organizer's pets, adoptable dogs and and past success stories.

I did something a little different this time around and planned two lighting setups that I could toggle between with a switch; this dramatic side lighting, and a second more traditional method. This worked great and I'll absolutely do it again in the future!
