Story time: These photos were unearthed from an old Argus film camera I picked up at an antique store in West Virginia. The roll sat on my desk for years because I assumed there was nothing on it. Unfortunately, when I was inspecting the camera, I opened up the back without realizing there was already film inside, exposing most of the roll to light.
Eventually my curiosity got the best of me (and with a little convincing from my wife) I sent the roll in to get developed and scanned. These frames were the only survivors..and I had no idea what they would reveal. I have no clue who took them or exactly where they were shot, but they feel like little time capsules from another era. I'm thinking they may have been taken sometime in the 1960s, possibly somewhere out west or even in Alaska. One of the train cars says “White Pass,” which appears to reference the historic White Pass & Yukon Route Railway in Alaska.
If anyone recognizes the location, knows more about the railway, or can help date these photos, let me know in the comments.
Just goes to show: sometimes the best treasures really are hiding in thrift stores and antique shops!
