The wildfires burning across western North America and Canada cast a thick haze that stretched all the way to the East Coast, but that didn't stop everyone from enjoying a round of golf. Here are a few images from a recent company golf outing that I was fortunate enough to attend and photograph.
The smoky atmosphere created challenging conditions for photography. Even at close range, colors appeared muted, fine details were lost, and I could only hope for the best when reviewing images on the back of the camera. Scenic tee boxes and fairways disappeared into a haze that never lifted, while only the faint silhouettes of trees guided golfers toward the greens.
This is a perfect example of why I shoot in RAW. While it's invaluable for correcting exposure or reducing noise, the real advantage is the ability to recover significantly more image data during post-processing. That flexibility allowed me to restore much of what the scene actually looked like that day. Always learning. Always improving. Always pushing myself to capture the moments that matter most.
Have you photographed in conditions with limited visibility? Smoke, fog, dust? Did it have any impact on your editing style or added tricks that you carried into future editing sessions?
