Last week I lead a virtual networking event and talked about how so many of my women clients were taking their businesses to the next level. How I had expanded my business as well, and that I was so grateful to be surrounded by people who were really stepping up.

As we all shared over the hour, one of the younger ladies talked through her tears about how stuck she felt in her life. She was really unhappy at her job, wasn't being utilized for her gifts, they weren't honoring her contract benefits, she was completely frustrated, but made a lot of money - and felt frozen. I shared with her a teaching I'd heard 30 years earlier about muddy water. That left standing, it eventually becomes clear. Having grown up on a farm and seeing how muddy the pond got after a big rain - red mud to be exact - it was easy for me to hold that vision and I utilize it to this day. And I reflected on how in my mid 30's I was in the same place. Different circumstances but at a major crossroad with no idea how to take the next step. This line from my song "Lookin' On The Outside" from my IN THE MOMENT cd sums it up - "Muddy water, I can't see through. Can't see my way past you. I' been lookin' for somethin' familiar, so I can take a step away. But that would lead me right back, to the place I am today". https://music.apple.com/us/artist/sandra-julian/66628661

In my case, I had to step away from my life completely to begin to get clarity. A mentor also appeared who invited me to a group retreat she was holding and over time, the work completely changed my life. It was a process of beginning to peel away what I knew, which is where I was - and opening - with support - into the unknown. The next step. This is why I've expanded my work to offer retreats. For exactly this place. I've lived it. It's time for the next step, but there is no clarity. I would not be where I am today in my life had I not done this work.

"Behind the Lens". Photography has been a journey for me. I've gone from using dad's polaroid camera on our family vacations, to my first Nikon FG film camera - still photographing family and the incredible nature I was surrounded by in the smokey mountains, to a new film camera for trips to Europe, to today's professional digital cameras for my photography business. The one constant is that I've always loved capturing people the most. The subtle expressions, holding space for them to simply relax so their inner nature can come forward. It's a privilege to witness that process and we often cry together viewing the images on the back of the camera.

Sometimes, I need a quick updated photo of myself for marketing such as this one for Thr•iii Collective Magazine, https://heyzine.com/flip-book/e11c785f47.html /28, which often turns into a self portrait, which means I have to relax in front of the camera myself, and it's not always easy. And sometimes - things don't always go as planned when Miss Lola is near by, my hair isn't dry yet and the shutter goes off! But I love this work, it's always such a creative process, and a complete honor.

When Jill Zitzer, owner at PIECE, walked into the studio for her Personal Branding Photo Shoot - her incredible selection of clothing in tow - I was THRILLED. We had a loose plan but, as often happens, flowed through the session with what felt right. It's such a creative, fun time. Jill knows herself, she knows her style and she knocked it out of the park. She is a glowing example of owning who you are and spreading your light in the world, as you are. I'm honored to know her.

Jill is an Experienced Sales Representative with a demonstrated history of working in the Furniture, Flooring, Textiles, and Architectural Elements industry. She has strong client relations and customer service skills.

CELEBRATING STRENGTH
I can remember YEARS of my life that I couldn't see my way out of a paper bag. I was so confused and removed. And it's not like I wasn't doing some pretty cool things. But I had no real opinion, no idea what I wanted or what step to take to move forward. It was a really hard time. It was hard, because I had a sense there was so much I just wasn't able to access. Overcoming those challenges, however, being brave enough to clear the noise and really begin to "see" what was going on - revealed courage, strength and drive I never dreamed I had. It's allowed me to grow into myself, ultimately giving purpose and meaning to my life. I've held all this so close. But I'm telling my story now to say it is possible. We all have different strengths, values and passions; and it's exciting, as well as, fulfilling to discover them and become empowered to live the truest, most authentic versions of ourselves. It's our time.

Many of you know me as a professional photographer, entertainer or for my commitment to health and work in the healthcare industry. Most don’t know, however, that I’ve also been on a deeply personal transformational journey for the last 30 years. This process has yielded a holistic, broader view and experience of everything. The constant state of curiosity, questioning, learning, reflection and growth has opened not only many amazing experiences, but also purpose, fulfillment and joy beyond anything I could have imagined.

I intentionally step forward now with my story, my expanded business and a new book because I’m so grateful for my life, and am driven to empower other women who are ready to take bold action in creating the life they have always wanted.

Time and time again my clients come to their photography sessions - nervous, excited, uncertain - and then something miraculous happens. As we work, all the stories and uncertainty they have about themselves falls away and their beautiful, calm center just comes forward. It's such an honor to witness this process..❤

I've spent a lot of my life feeling like I wasn't "photogenic", with albums full of images to support my belief. Unruly curly hair, strange expressions because of my discomfort, and poor clothing choices for my body type were all documented in living color. But after a photoshoot with a professional photographer in LA 30 years ago, that all began to change. Using her skill and direction, she proved me wrong - and I had 20 incredible images right there in front of me to use in my business and as a touchstone when I forgot. This was so life changing for me I talk through the entire experience in the only blog post on my website.

Recently, I did a photoshoot with the amazing Barbara Burns Churchill and she describes a similar experience. When she saw her images at her viewing session in my office a few days after her session, we both sat there and cried. I had lived what she was feeling. Please check out "Episode 72: How You See Yourself" on her podcast where she talks about her experience and what we as women do to ourselves. Thank you Barbara for being you and for trusting me to create images for you and your business. You rock!
