Allen Bourne Images

Allen Bourne Images Photographic artist offering abstract and representational images of nature and the man-made.

In his “law of the instrument,” Abraham Maslow said, "I suppose it is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as if it were a nail." This law certainly applies to photographers who, with their cameras, shoot a wide range of subjects on the way to finding their artistic voice. While much art on the market today seems aimed at driving social awareness or change on often

narrow topics, my purpose is to provide a visual haven from the hyper-politicized environment that we live in today, a haven that delights through abstract color and form, mystique and surprise regarding the subject. The predominant focus of my work is the abstract in nature, or in objects discarded or off the beaten path that have been etched by the chemistry of our environment.

Pretty much a bucket list item, only it happens in the dead of winter and you have to hike a ways in foot deep snow to get to the viewpoint. Still, the moment Horsetail Falls at Yosemite lights up for a few minutes with the setting sun is as unique an experience as you can have.

San Esteban del Rey Mission Church, Acoma Pueblo (Sky City), NM. Sitting atop a mesa nearly 400 ft from the valley floor, it's one of the oldest churches in the US, having been constructed1629-1642. I'll have this newly reworked image on display at Placitas Studio Tour, Studio #25.

Getting ready for the upcoming Placitas Studio Tour I took another look at this image from 2010--"A Rose"-- that for some reason I hadn't quite determined how I wanted to crop it...until today. Now printed on Red River Palo Duro Etching, matted, with silver frame, 22"x28". $500.

It's that time of year again for Placitas Studio Tour--over Mother's Day Weekend, Friday through Sunday. Hope you'll make time to stop by Studio #25 to visit and see what I've been working on over the past year. New B&W/monochrome work as well as panoramic landscapes. Plus, the great view off the back patio!

The preview show, with one piece from every one of this year's studio participants, just went up today at the Placitas Community Library.

On a recent driving trip up to Portland and Seattle, we were surprised and elated to see golden cottonwoods the entire way up and back. Along our route, we breezed through Canyonlands National Park, a portion of which is pictured here (click for best view on your monitor).
