Met up with to shoot the stars at this Stonehenge replica. Unfortunately no stars showed up but we did get some nice latte art for sunset.

Clear skies were choked out by a sudden marine layer that drifted in from the coast. This was taken back in the summer and I couldn’t believe how chilly the air became with some cold fog from the Pacific. It was nearly 100 degrees just a couple hours away in Portland. Never visited this side of Cape Kiwanda but I loved scampering over the rocks from the beach.

Catching up on some editing from this summer and finally finished this photo of a small patch of Scarlet Paintbrush perched in front of Mount St Helens. Thanks for checking out my photos!

This photo has been living in my mind for quite some time now, and I finally had the opportunity to snag it last week. A wide angle shot of wild flowers leading up to a mountain with the milky way core in the background. It’s taken a few failures, broken gear, and learning new techniques, but I think I finally got what I have been looking for. Had a great time at astrophotography meetup but I wasn’t very happy with my shots at the fire lookout particularly after an incredible sunset. Luckily I had a second chance the next night with clear skies.

This mist factory is one of my favs. I can’t capture how tall these cascades are in a single image but between these 2 levels it is well over 200 feet. A cold dewy hike near the gorge + 1 warm cup of tea = peak PNW.

I've been finding myself shooting with my telephoto lens more and more out in the field when I find some excitement with smaller details out on the horizon. However, I tend to feel a bit lost when I come back home and have to put the image together into a final product. The image will often seem too busy and unfocused and I never get to a place where I feel happy with it. That was until I started experimenting with a new aspect ratio that I am very excited about (a strange thing to be excited about). 2.5 x 1. The past couple of panoramas I have posted have been at 2.5 units wide by 1 unit high. There is just something about this format that really works. Take a look at my last photo in the post and I think you will see what I mean. The image is wide enough to accommodate a grand landscape but not too wide that it seems to go on forever. It can still fit nicely on a screen and retains a bit of the focus from "non-panorama" photos. There are number of films (Ben Hur, Hateful Eight) that have been shot a bit wider than this at 2.75 x1 and I think this has a similar feel to it. Anyways, this was a look into the weird things that have been helpful and inspirational to me lately.
