In 2023 I was invited to Belgrad, Serbia where my satirical guru-novel The Mango Dancer (Det store glidefald) came out in Serbian.

Not a lot happened while I was visiting, but at one point I gave an interview that I thought was to a literary blogger, but it turned out to be to the biggest newspaper in Serbia. I even made the front page which has happened a lot during my career in any country!

So, I love how books can move around the world in mysterious ways. 99% of published novels are never translated into other languages because for that to happen it means that the foreign publisher has to buy the foreign rights, pay for the translation into their own language, and give an advance to the author and his or her agent.

So, I never take for granted that my books are sold to other countries, but the seven or eight time it has happened I'm the happiest kid in the literary kindergarten.

So, here's to Serbia, France, Portugal, Ukraine, and the U.S. etc. Keep the translations coming, please!

Yes, I know it. There's a new religion in town and most of us are not disciples of the Orange Messiah. But despair doesn't make anyone a better person. Hope does.

So, please remember how gorgeous the world is. There are still waterfalls, Chardonnay, reggae, Venice, s*x at inappropriate places, belly laughs, Premier League football, palaak paneer, cute kids with dimples, and at least 100,000 funny videos of cats falling off furniture without hurting themselves.

We and Greenland are going to survive this, but none of us are weather gods who decide the fate of nations. We're only tiny thermostats that can regulate our inner worlds but that should be more than enough.

So have a great four years no matter what, friends!
