If you only want your photos when you win- I get it.
I don't have a single professional photo of myself doing jiu jitsu (yet!). But I have a ton from my years as a competitive runner. Some of them stung when I first saw them. I saved them anyway and forgot about them.
Now I show them to my toddler. And I am so thankful I have every single one- the strong moments and the hard ones. The finishes I'm proud of and the races I'd rather forget. It's all part of the story.
You put in the work. You showed up. That is part of the story whether the ref raises your hand or not. Speaking from personal experience and over two decades of competition myself- on both local and national stages, you're going to want the photos. Even if it's just from an iphone at the end of the day.
Also- one day if we are blessed to make it, we will be 80 years old, still training and really love having the photos of our youth.

Book your coverage for Fight to Win Portland - link in bio. Saturday is almost here.

Pretty cool that not even a year later I'll be back on the stage where it all really took off for me.
Last July I took a chance and was so kindly welcomed by the F2W media crew. That event opened so many doors for me moving forward.

This Saturday I'll be back and I am so excited to capture the action, to see familiar faces, and to cover some of you who I met for the first time not even a year ago on one of the best grappling stages to come to the PNW.

If you want coverage, now is the time. Link in bio or DM

I got a lot of questions at ADCC West Coast Trials regarding film. So here's the break down on what I do- gear, film stock, light meter and all.

I've been doing film photography in both jiujitsu and family work for a few months now and still figuring it out but I absolutely love it. There is a certain kind of magic and feeling in film that digital can't quite achieve and its great for certain moments.

My next tournament that I will be covering is Fight to Win Portland on June 13th! Limited spots for this one- DM if you want coverage.

Anyone else interested in film photography at tournaments? Let me know if you have questions!

A little something different to mix things up in this corner of the internet! It should be no surprise at this point that I love trying new things 😆

Digital just doesn’t quite hit the same way film does 😮‍💨
It slows you down. It makes you choose. (And say a little prayer it all worked out 😆) When you get it right; the grain, the moment, the imperfect light- it feels more alive.
I started dabbling in film in November and I’m so proud of how these images turned out. Shot on f100- a 20 some year old film camera and Portra 800 film stock.
✨Starting now, film is officially part of my tournament coverage offerings. If you compete and you want your mat time documented in a way that is nostalgic, dreamy and stops the scroll, let’s talk!
