๐จ๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐!!! ๐๐จ
We started this weekend with a pretty simple idea... give the kids at Portsmouth Raceway Park something fun to do while they're waiting on the racing to get started!
Thanks to my buddy Henf all the way over in Scotland, we had $100 worth of crayons donated so I could print off coloring pages and actually bring them to the track with plenty of crayons for the kids to use, completely FREE! We did something similar earlier this season at Jackson County Speedway with help from Mary's Clothesline, and the kids seemed to have a blast with it, so I figured... why not do it again at PRP?!
Then Friday night, I got to talking with Jim Bradley of Bradley Racing Apparel, and Mr. Bradley was kind enough to keep the coloring pages at his trailer and help get them into the hands of the kiddos. Then Mr. Bradley had an idea...
โWhoever colors the best picture, I'll give them $20.โ
And just like that, what started as something fun for the kids turned into a little contest!
But Saturday night for The PRP Dirt Classic, the racing family did what the racing family does... they showed up for the kids. Once we started making announcements about the coloring contest over the PA, people started coming up to Mr. Bradley wanting to throw some money into the prize pool too!
By the end of the night, 10 kids went home with nearly $200 in combined prize money, and PRP Flagman Steve Fyffe went even further and donated an actual set of racing flags to give away as prizes!
THAT'S what this is all about โค๏ธ
I just wanted to give the kiddos something fun to do during some downtime at the track... and the racing family took that little idea and turned it into something WAY bigger than I ever could have done on my own.
So I want to give a HUGE thank you to everyone who helped make this happen:
Jim & Sandy Bradley
Kenny Bradley
Scott Salyers of Yada Yada's Dirt Track And Sports Talk
Seth Boggs
Corey Payton
Cathy Chinn Schintzius
Our Anonymous Donor
PRP Flagman Steve Fyffe for those racing flags
and of course Jamie, Judith, and the entire Jent family for making all of this possible in the first place!
And a special thank you to Henf for sending $100 worth of crayons all the way from Scotland so we could make sure the kids had something to color with in the first place ๐
This is exactly the kind of stuff I love about dirt racing. It's not always about the cars... sometimes it's about making sure the next generation has a reason to fall in love with this crazy sport we all love so much!
๐๐๐... ๐๐'๐๐ ๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐!!! ๐๐
The Jents have announced that, weather permitting, Portsmouth Raceway Park will close out the season with an unsanctioned $50,000-to-win Super Late Model Halloween Special on October 31st!
And you better believe we're bringing the coloring contest back for one more round ๐๐ผ
Only this time? We're going to make it bigger... better... and even more fun for the kiddos! So if you've got a little future driver, fan, flagman, announcer, photographer, crew member, or dirt-track addict in the making, have them get those crayons ready ๐๏ธ๐
We'll see you at PRP for Halloween!!! ๐
The Legacy Lives On at The Place To Be...
And the next generation is already waiting behind the fence ๐ค๐ผ
