Graced with some December sunshine in Washington this weekend. Combine that with the most amazing family like the Stokes. Perfection. What an easy, breezy fun session for me. Catching up with some old friends. These two sweet sisters having grown incredibly fast.

I always say I love how my camera gives me these opportunities to see the different chapters in a family's life. The little snapshots in. A reminder when I'm living my own story day-to-day with my family that those chapters are over and gone faster than we're ready for. Before we know it, our little stroller babies are losing teeth, performing in plays, and making us so proud.

Flexibility is key. Right? ;) Even when rain decides to unexpectedly downpour. Drenched through multiple layers but embracing the unexpected. I adore these families. The Modell family being extra special to me. Taking me back to when I hardly knew a thing about my camera and being a photographer itself. But trusting me and now, all these years later, to both be back in Washington. In the rain, smiling through it and grateful for the time spent together.

So many smiles this weekend. Seeing new and old friends out at the lake. Braving the crisp early morning fall air to capture some sweet moments to remember. There are a lot of moments in between the ones you see in your gallery. Sometimes without the smiles and giggles, despite my best efforts. Maybe there are some tears involved even. This is how it goes, though, right. I appreciate watching how each family helps each other in their own way. Showing love and grace and allowing the natural, unposed moments of life to happen.

Always makes for a great Sunday afternoon. Time spent with friends on a new beach, exploring together, smiling and laughing, catching up on time gone by. The Rodlands are another family I've come to know and love over the years. Sweet little Eloise there a newborn not long ago. Now teeter tottering around the beach, desperate to get to the water and experience all that she can. I love what I have the opportunity to do with a camera in my hand.

How did I get so lucky? To leave my house on a Saturday morning, telling my kids I'm going to "work". But really, I'm going to a park to hang out with my friends. Hanging out with their families, laughing and smiling, running around chasing toddlers and pups, to create and capture special moments. My now annual sessions with these two sisters and their beautiful families. I like to think back and remember because that's what this is all about. Having those moments to reflect on. Because we know our families will only ever look like this once. It's nice to remember.

Time sped up again. Senior year, a huge accomplishment. Looking at my own son and not even thinking this day will come for him. But it will. And this is John's year, with a great future ahead of him. Exploring this beautiful high school together, catching up with his mom was a special way to spend a Saturday morning.

Life suddenly sped up. My family, in this new chapter, with its busy kid activity schedule, homeschooling, figuring out what happens next for us in this military transition. Days get away from me. Taking a snapshot like this of the Pruitt family is a reminder. With sneaky side glances and love-filled smiles. I haven't seen them in over three years. Back when those two kids were tiny. And now they have their own grown-up, individual personalities. I'm reminded that it happens fast. Slow down and appreciate.

What an extra special one for me. Meeting my new niece. This sweet, precious, little girl. Watching my brother and sister-in-law become parents. Having watched them through my lens from engagement to wedding, maternity and now here. With an added member to their family. Another to love. And I am so proud of them. Going overnight from two to three is difficult. A steep learning curve. But they're doing it together. Supporting each other through it all. The expected and unexpected. They'll look back one day and smile, grateful, knowing they're stronger because of the struggles. I love you, sweet Chloe Rose.

A special treat getting to see these four this past weekend during a quick jaunt to Colorado to meet my new niece. Letting the boys be boys, jumping and playing, building rock towers, and making flower bouquets for mom. I may have a camera in hand and be constantly on the lookout for the next moment to capture. But the best sessions always feel like this, friends simply hanging out and catching up.

For my Washington friends, September is coming much faster than anticipated and I've been considering what to offer this year. I will not be doing formal rounds of minis. Homeschooling has taken a larger role in my family's life during this stage of our story. But I am still offering sessions. If you would like a mini session sometime this year (especially in anticipation of Christmas card season coming up), send me a message and we can start coordinating details.

What a gift. Spending time with a beautiful family freshly grown by a new, sweet little boy. Capturing all those moments and mementos of this stage that are gone in a blink. The little fingers and toes, long eyelashes, and button nose. To say it goes by fast is an understatement. Thank goodness for these frozen memories.

Precious new beginnings. Like a new addition to the family. Adjusting can take time. But looking back at that new beginning, we always want to go back and remember. Those little toes, little fingers, little nose. Personality coming through over time. Getting to know each other better. But that beginning time, as hard as it can be, will always be precious.

Hanging in Colorado with some new friends and familiar ones. The military life has given my family and I the opportunity to meet the best people. And even though we all eventually move away, it may not be the last time. What a fun evening to spend with some old Alaska friends and getting to know new Colorado friends in between the rain showers.
