A pretty special night to be under the stars. 🌌

Tonight was one of the darkest nights for viewing the Milky Way, with almost no moonlight competing with the stars. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to get out with my camera and see what I could capture.

But the best part about September 11 has nothing to do with the night sky. Today my oldest son, Aubrey, turns 25. ❤️ Twenty-five years ago, he made me a mom for the first time.

So this Milky Way is for you, Aubrey. Happy 25th Birthday! I hope you always remember just how much you are loved.

My first attempt at capturing the Milky Way. ✨🌌

Last night I headed out beneath the stars with my camera, hoping to capture even a glimpse of our galaxy. There’s definitely a learning curve to astrophotography, but I think that’s part of what makes it so rewarding. This was attempt number one—and certainly not my last.

Hello, September. 🍂🦅

September arrived quietly today, somewhere between the last deep greens of summer and the first subtle hints that autumn is on its way.

I spent some time wandering with my camera, photographing whatever nature chose to put in front of me—turtles soaking up the warmth, a duck along the water’s edge, changing leaves and one very special surprise.

Just one bald eagle made an appearance today—the only eagle I spotted during my outing—but sometimes one is all it takes to make the entire morning memorable. 🦅

There’s something I love about this time of year. Summer hasn’t quite let go, but September has a way of reminding us that change is already happening 🍁

A darker side of the Red-tailed Hawk. 🖤🪶

This beautiful bird is a dark-morph Red-tailed Hawk — a less commonly seen color variation with rich, deep brown plumage that can make it look almost like an entirely different species at first glance.

There’s something especially striking about seeing such a familiar raptor wearing such an unfamiliar look. Nature always seems to have another surprise waiting. 🤎

One of my favorite moments from last night’s lunar eclipse—the Moon still wrapped in Earth’s shadow as a brilliant edge of sunlight begins to emerge.

There’s something incredible about watching the light slowly reclaim the Moon.

Earth’s shadow, written across the Moon. 🌙

Photographed around 10:30 PM during last night’s lunar eclipse. The deep copper-red color appears as the Moon passes through Earth’s shadow—sunlight filtering through our atmosphere allows the warmer red and orange wavelengths to reach the lunar surface.

One of those moments that makes staying up with a camera completely worth it.
