This is our wedding interview setup

For this setup, I’m using the Sony FX3 with a 50mm lens, the Tascam FR-AV2 recorder, and the RØDE NTG3 sh***un mic.

The FX3 + 50mm gives me the look I want for documentary-style wedding interviews, while the NTG3 and FR-AV2 handle the audio so I can focus on the conversation instead of worrying about the gear.

Filming documentary interviews on a moving boat definitely isn’t the ideal environment for clean audio 😂

For this interview setup, I was running camera and booming audio with a sh***un mic using the Bubblebee Windkiller.

And the audio came out THIS clean. 🤯

This is our wedding interview setup and we’re using something new!

Its COMICA VM40, a 32-bit float sh***un mic with up to 32GB of internal recording.

For wedding interviews, clean audio is everything. I need something I can set up quickly, trust to capture the moment, and keep moving.

But specs only tell you so much… This is what it actually sounds like.

During the reception, I’ll pull aside family and friends, bring them into my interview setup, and simply ask them to talk directly to the couple.

Leave them a message. Tell them what you love about them. Say something they can come back to years from now.

Because a documentary wedding film isn’t just about remembering what your wedding looked like.

It’s about remembering the people who were there, their voices, and what they wanted you to know in that exact season of your life.

That’s the kind of wedding memory I want to preserve.

This is our wedding interview setup for a wedding reception.

Keeping it as lightweight as possible while still getting the look and audio we want.

🎥 Sony FX3 on a monopod
📷 Sony 16mm
🎤 Rode NTG3 into the Tascam FR-AV2
💡 Amaran 25c through diffusion

I was honestly curious if the Amaran 25c had enough output for reception interviews, and it handled this setup really well. The 16mm also gave us plenty of room to work with

Always testing gear in real wedding environments instead of a studio, that’s where you find out what actually works.

Audio can make or break a video, and I’m always interested in trying gear that can simplify the workflow.

The Comica VM40 caught my attention with features like 32-bit float internal recording, onboard storage, and the flexibility to run wired or wirelessly

Every bit of audio you hear in this reel was recorded with the VM40, and over the next few shoots I’ll be putting it through real wedding and documentary work.
