Often, the songs will stop me in my tracks. There are many songs that remind me of so many of you. The couples who trust me to be there storyteller, that is. Your first dances. The song the band practiced during your first look. The strings of harmony as you walked down the aisle. Sometimes as I'm cooking dinner in the kitchen or driving in my car or gardening, one of these melodies will come on and I will be transported back to that place. Most recently, jt was C'era una Volta il West--or--"Once Upon a Time in The West". I can remember the exact moment. I was swiftly, with hopeful discretion, moving through the lawn level of a private Italian villa overlooking Lake Como. It was late afternoon, warm and a languid breeze. The strings carried their harmony through the grounds and across the lake as you wiped streaming tears from your cheeks--looking your father in the face, you both laughed. I quickly peered over the shoulder of your musicians and snapped a photo of the music sheet as to be able to remember just what song they were playing. It's beautiful and it was emotional and honest and lovely and all of the things that your wedding day was, too.
The thing about me--I'm all in kind of person. I'm fully immersed. Feeling and sensing and anticipating it all. Storytelling through photography has given home to my ability to experience the world in what feels like full volume. In life, it has, at times felt heavy to carry. As a documentarian, it now feels harnessed as a superpower. I recognize that the incredible stories others bring my way come to me because they are so authentic and wonderful and genuine that they deserve every bit of volume and awareness and experiencing.
I'm so grateful. For the bounty of beautiful memories and reminders I carry of each story I am trusted to tell. It's a beautiful, harmonious, collection to hold.
