Moosehead Lake in Maine never dissapoints!

I was pleasantly surprised with the result of using a 1.7x teleconverter on my 500mm lens. Good detail and decent sharpness (click image to view full size). It took a little more post processing but I'm satisfied with the end result. Unfortunately it becomes an F9 lens and needs pretty strong light to keep the ISO in check, but, in the right light, another tool in the toolbox at 850mm!

When it comes to luck, I'm usually on the wrong side of it. But today, a couple hours after the first sighting of the coyote (which was a long ways away and I had to crop the image pretty heavily), I caught him/her on its return trip and somewhat miraculously, I was in a perfect position with camera in hand. No camo, no photo blind, just standing in the wide open as I saw it emerge from the bushes into the field and look at the house (where the humans usually are). It doesn't usually work like that but I love it when it does!

Photo Dump!!! We just returned from four days of remote camping at one of Vermont's State Parks where you boat into a remote camp site. What a great time! The weather challenged us a bit and our 30 year old tent proved to be a little past its prime which required moving things out the day after the storm to hang dry for the day, it could have always been worse! We pretty much had the lake to ourselves for four days so I can't complain about a little rain (and high winds). While many shots may look like I am "right on top" of the wildlife, I was using a 600mm lens and most of the images are cropped significantly. The loons seem to be pretty accustomed to humans and will often initiate contact coming close to investigate. And with nesting eagles on the lake, they keep an eye on the sky! I saw one duck that was down to a single duckling.
