While walking through the flooded forest at Harry Moss Park, I heard a Hooded Warbler that I have found 3 times without ever seeing it, just hearing its song. As I walked a few feet forward towards the song, I heard some BIG splashes coming from the trail (now a river). I look and see it’s an otter!!!! I knew not to move and just sat watching it splash around 30 ft away. Then to my great surprise it headed right for me and showed off its catch!! What an amazing experience!!

A very rare opportunity to see a Virginia Rail out in the open!! These were taken with my cell phone. That’s how un-shy this bird was 🤯

Golden Cheeked Warbler - Dogwood Canyon Audubon

So happy to have the endangered Golden Cheeked Warblers return to the Dogwood again this year. Based on what I have experienced and heard, I think there are at least 4 in the canyon. This important habitat that is suitable for them needs to be preserved before its developed. I would love it if we could change them to be the state bird of Texas as it's the only bird species that breeds exclusively within Texas!!
