Four summers. 🥹

One of the most unexpected blessings of this little business has been watching families come back year after year and trusting me to document their kids as they grow.

When I started, I never imagined this would become a yearly tradition for so many families. That I’d get to know these kids, watch their personalities unfold, and somehow have a front-row seat to the passing of time.

This handsome guy is one I’ve had the joy of watching grow up, and four summers later, I still can’t believe I get to do this. 🤍

I think this trend is so hilarious, so I had to do it myself. 😂

Playroom Studio turns 3 this month, and I thought this would be a fun way to share a few details about how it all started.

Three years ago, I started with:
✨ A $200 Amazon light kit
📸 A 10-year-old camera
💻 A Chromebook that was basically the same one RISD seventh graders were using.
🤍 Free trials of Session, Pixieset, and Lightroom

Here’s where it gets even better…

For the first six months, I edited everything on my phone because Lightroom Mobile gave you unlimited cloud storage. Every gallery had to make the trip from my camera →phone→Lightroom Mobile → Google Drive → Pixieset before it ever landed in a client’s inbox. 😂

I edited while I cooked dinner.
I edited in the car and during gymnastics.
I edited on airplanes.
I edited after bedtime.
Basically, if I had five free minutes, I was editing.

Looking back, it’s kind of wild… but I wouldn’t change a thing. It taught me that you don’t need perfect equipment to create meaningful work.

(And yes… I finally bought a real laptop. 😂 And yes, I eventually upgraded that 10-year-old camera too.)

Thank you to every family who’s been part of these first three years. What started with a $200 Amazon light kit has become something I could’ve only dreamed about. 🤍

Hi! 👋🏼 There have been so many new faces lately, so I wanted to reintroduce myself. My name is Savannah, and I’m the photographer 📸 behind Playroom Studio!

I started this business 3 years ago while staying home with my kiddos, and wow, it has blessed me more than I ever imagined. 🤍 I absolutely love getting to capture your children’s personalities, and even more than that, watching so many of them come back year after year as they grow.

I’m married to Thomas, who helps with so much of the behind-the-scenes work. Fun fact: we met 18 years ago at Sky Ranch while working as summer camp counselors. 🤭

We have two kids 👧🏼👦🏼, ages 7 and 5. When I’m not taking pictures, you can probably find me outside 🌳, planning a trip ✈️, or making a quick U-turn because I spotted an estate sale. Hope to meet you or welcome you back into the studio soon! 💘
