Legacy looks back, but it also looks forward.
This is Courtney. She booked a holiday mini-session with me at the end of 2024 to announce her pregnancy. Fast forward to June, and her beautiful baby boy is here - photographed in her parents’ living room where you know he’s absolutely spoiled as the first grandson on both sides.
During our session, I was overcome by a profound sense of emotion. Yall, I cried (for those who don’t know me, I’m a crier). Courtney, who is a birth worker and doula, mentioned that her great-grandmother was also a Black midwife in Central Virginia. It’s funny how memories get jogged even as we’re creating new ones. There she was, nurturing her own child as she has helped usher life into this world for so many other women.
I think I cried during this session because I realized the profound blessing it is to capture what is now, reflect on what was, and witness what is to come.
A little later it hit me: I’m not just a family photographer. I’m a legacy photographer.
I’m here for families who recognize the shoulders they stand on and are doing the work now to build a future for generations to come. With Generations Sessions, we bridge the divide between past, present, and future. We honor the hands that held us, celebrate the love that surrounds us now, and create visual bridges for the little ones who will carry our stories forward.
Legacy isn’t just about looking back. Legacy looks forward. It’s about intentionally creating moments today that will become tomorrow’s treasured memories.
