I found this pair of eagles perched on old pilings on the shore of the Kennebec River this morning. It took me a bit to get the boat into position, against the tide, and without spooking my subjects. But I did. And it lasted about 10 seconds! But I captured a nice series of images of my first "double eagle" of the season.

Construction continues on the new ramp out to the Doubling Point Light in Arrowsic. This was from 3 days ago, so maybe construction is complete now. The old ramp was destroyed during the winter of 2023-24 during one of the four major storms we had.

I had the last boat ride of the season a couple days back (11/05/25). It was a balmy 37 degrees, but luckily the wind was blowing... I went most of the way down the Kennebec River from Richmond, and stopped about a half mile from the Kennebec River Range Lights (or Doubling Point Range Lights, depending on who you talk to) to grab this shot. Actually, I grabbed a bunch of shots until I had one with both lights illuminated.
The lights are positioned at the end of a long stretch of river. As long as one light (the back light is taller) is directly over the other, you knew you were in the middle of the river. If the lights weren't aligned, you adjusted accordingly. And if you only saw one light... brace for impact!

I was headed down the Kennebec River early yesterday morning to pick up a boat tour in Bath. I cruised by this guy, thinking at first, it was an osprey. I didn't stop initially, but then my brain told me that it wasn't an osprey, so I turned the boat around and went back to get a closer look. He/she hung out long enough for me to get a series of images in some very nice, fog diffused, early morning light. Red shouldered hawk, Bowdoinham, Maine.

We found a pair of immature snowy egrets during our afternoon photo tour yesterday. We were cruising the Sasanoa River when I spotted them up in the shallows. The 800 did a good job of pulling them in, but I wish it was deep enough to get the boat a little closer. Arrowsic, Maine.

What is this?? A young Harbor seal pup hanging out with an adult gray seal? At first glance, I thought the pup was nursing, but after getting a better look at the images, the pup was right next to the gray, looking very comfortable.
