rule two.

the work is the proof.

you don’t have to convince anybody who you’re becoming. put in the reps.

let the work speak.

the people who need to notice, will.

rule one.

show up before you feel ready.

readiness is a myth people wait on forever.

trying.

starts before confidence does.

you don’t earn the right to begin, you just begin, and the right shows up later.

what are you waiting to feel ready for? tell me below.

6am. port deposit steps.

aj and his friends could’ve skipped it. could’ve slept in. nobody would’ve known.

they could’ve stopped after 3 trips up those steps and a half mile run. that’s more than enough. that’s a good morning already.

they didn’t stop. they climbed one more time.

the gap between quitting and trying. is smaller than people think.

it’s not a canyon. it’s not some heroic leap. it’s one more trip up the steps when three would’ve been fine. it’s the thirty seconds after your legs tell you you’re done and before you decide if that’s true.

here’s what lives in the gap:

nobody watching. no one keeping score. just you and the steps and the choice to go again.

and here’s the other thing

there’s no shame in getting knocked down. none. you get knocked out, you get outworked, you lose. that’s not on you. that happens to everybody who’s actually in it.

the shame is in throwing in the towel. the shame is in deciding, before the fight’s over, that you’re done.

they didn’t throw in the towel at the bottom of those steps. they climbed one more time, together.

trying.

written in dust. baseball fields, all week, every week. the car hadn’t been washed because I hadn’t stopped.

that’s the whole why behind trying. I’m always trying something. hobbies, brands, shirt designs, business ideas, different mediums. but more than any of that, I’m always trying to be better at being a person.

this is for the ones with 20 minutes clean and the ones with 20 years still fighting the same demons. for the ones with the idea but not the confidence to act on it. for the ones who want to be better and don’t know where to start.

this isn’t an apology. it’s a declaration. trying is enough. and f**k anyone who says it’s not.
