Ruby-throated Hummingbird
Here are some fun facts about hummingbirds.A ruby-throated hummingbird's heart beats about 225 to 250 times per minute at rest, and races up to 1,200 to 1,260 beats per minute while flying. While in state of Torpor (Sleeping): It Drops to about 50 beats per minute to conserve energy. Hummingbirds require around three to eight calories per day. This doesn’t seem like much at first. But translating that into human terms, it’d mean consuming 155,000 calories a day.To look at it a different way, we would have to eat over 300 quarter-pound cheeseburgers per day to keep up with the eating habits of hummingbirds, if our bodies worked as rapidly as theirs.
