Finest Field - show me a better view in all of baseball. The stunning vista from the outfield of Erlanger Park, new home of the Chattanooga Lookouts, is an inside the park home run!

Rocky Road - short but tough 2 miles down to and up from the beautiful small lake at Standing Stone State Park. I'm sure my knees will be complaining about the descent later.

Headed to my favorite big box home and garden store to pick up a little indoor potting soil. Got to the register, punched in my number for my military discount, and the result shocked the person helping me. An older woman, she nervously asked if I wanted anything else and briefly looked around for something small to add. But this store isn't one with candy or gum or other sundries by the registers. She re-rang my potting soil with a fifty cent discount, just so my total wouldn't be $6.66!

Essential Experience - a magnolia is not something you view, it's an experience - something to spend time with - maybe even life altering. The fragrance is not a smell, it's an essence - something you inhale, consider, and instantly desire more.
This beetle (and I) just can't get enough.

Domestic Dispute - the Battle of Kings Mountain is significant in multiple ways. This Revolutionary War action on October 7, 1780, was a major turning point of the war in the South. The Loyalist militia defeated here were a large part of British plans for splitting the colonies (isolating the north). They were soundly defeated (nearly all killed, wounded, or captured) by Patriot militia from Virginia, North and South Carolina, and what is now Tennessee. Second, like other battles in the Southern theater, it was another chapter in the story of America's first civil war. There was only one British soldier here, Major Patrick Ferguson, commander of the Loyalists. There was at least one family, the Goforths of North Carolina, who lost brothers fighting on opposite sides. It was the largest such action in the bloody fight of neighbors and families against each other. Returning here for me was also a personal victory. Last visit was 12 years and four cardiovascular surgeries ago. And my last visit was in February, when the climb of about 1,000 feet was not slowed down further by late May heat and humidity.
I found it interesting the National Park signage referred to the combatants in political terms (Whigs and Tories) as opposed to Loyalists and .

Upcountry Urge - having visited Greenville, in or Upcountry South Carolina 5 of the last 7 years, and skipping last year, I had to kick off my trip to the interior of the state there.
I always enjoy my time here and over the years have learned and experienced more of this great city, home of the Red Sox affiliate Greenville Drive and of course hometown of the great Joseph Jefferson Jackson - baseball legend Shoeless Joe. Once again enjoyed some great baseball (2 wins!), good food, and creative craft beer. And got to see the Reedy River, which once powered textile mills here, absolutely raging.
