County Hospital, Also a former morgue, poor house, mental hospital, and behavioral health clinic. It was built in the 1800’s and was once a flourishing 34,000 square foot County Hospital in its earlier years. Over the century and a half it has ungone some intense changes. The mysterious and spooky building reached its climax in 2001, after becoming the setting for a real life horror story. A mentally ill client went on a shooting rampage. January 10, 2001, 40-year-old Scott Harlan Thorpe walked into the Nevada County Department of Behavioral Health in Nevada City, California. He (suffering delusions) proceeded inside and killed two employees. He then drove to a nearby restaurant and killed the manager, before being apprehended. The building eventually met its demise 5 years later in 2006. It now sits rotting falling apart plagued with graffiti, mold, and a chilling atmosphere.
