Beau’s Mom wanted to capture the end of his senior year exactly as he is now: a casual, laid-back guy who wears his flip flops year round and loves golf. This gave us the perfect foundation to build from.
At Goodlight, every session is tailored to the person we are photographing. From location to lighting, to personality and comfort level, we spend time getting to know our clients before they ever step foot in front of the camera so we can create a shoot that feels natural, personal and true to them. The goal is always the same: helping people feel comfortable enough to bring out their best light.
For Beau, we chose a location that offered a mix of hardscape for portraits and easy access to the golf course, which we knew was a setting that he felt right at home in. As we began, Beau was easygoing, polite, and willing to try a couple of poses, but he was definitely not excited about it – this was all for his mom. Cut to five minutes later and he was relaxed, laughing and having (dare I say) a little fun. In under twenty minutes, we’d moved naturally through every location on the shoot plan and already had more than enough great images. Then he changed into his golf clothes and we headed to the course, where he completely came alive.
It was such a joy to capture him in his element and witness his love for the sport. While some graduate sessions focus on what’s next – caps, gowns, or college sweatshirts – I love that Beau and his family chose to preserve this version of him right now, before everything changes.
And if you’ve been worrying that you’re too late for senior portraits, you’re not. There is still plenty of time to capture your graduate before they begin their next chapter. Years from now, you won’t remember whether the photos happened in April, May, June, or July. You’ll just remember how quickly they changed, and how grateful you are that you captured this moment in time before it was gone.
