Beau’s Mom wanted to capture the end of his senior year exactly as he is now: a casual, laid-back guy who wears his flip flops year round and loves golf. This gave us the perfect foundation to build from.

At Goodlight, every session is tailored to the person we are photographing. From location to lighting, to personality and comfort level, we spend time getting to know our clients before they ever step foot in front of the camera so we can create a shoot that feels natural, personal and true to them. The goal is always the same: helping people feel comfortable enough to bring out their best light.

For Beau, we chose a location that offered a mix of hardscape for portraits and easy access to the golf course, which we knew was a setting that he felt right at home in. As we began, Beau was easygoing, polite, and willing to try a couple of poses, but he was definitely not excited about it – this was all for his mom. Cut to five minutes later and he was relaxed, laughing and having (dare I say) a little fun. In under twenty minutes, we’d moved naturally through every location on the shoot plan and already had more than enough great images. Then he changed into his golf clothes and we headed to the course, where he completely came alive.

It was such a joy to capture him in his element and witness his love for the sport. While some graduate sessions focus on what’s next – caps, gowns, or college sweatshirts – I love that Beau and his family chose to preserve this version of him right now, before everything changes.

And if you’ve been worrying that you’re too late for senior portraits, you’re not. There is still plenty of time to capture your graduate before they begin their next chapter. Years from now, you won’t remember whether the photos happened in April, May, June, or July. You’ll just remember how quickly they changed, and how grateful you are that you captured this moment in time before it was gone.

I’ve been getting calls: “Are we too late?” The answer is no; you’re right on time. April is one of my favorite months for senior sessions. The light is better. The trees are leafing out and the spring wildflowers in this region are 🤩 Most seniors feel a bit more settled as post-graduation decisions are clearer, and the pressure of the year is starting to lift. This lightness in them and the light around them really shows in the images I capture. If a Senior Session has been on your list, now is the time to book. There are a few spring sessions left before graduation.

These are days…

A little hazy. A little messy. A bit chaotic. So full of love.

When you’re in the thick it, it feels like life will always be this way. But life moves on in a blink. Capturing this fleeting moment in photos means you can always be transported right back to this special slice of life when you look at them.

When he would only wear overalls and insisted on being called Farmer Bill.

When she was just growing out of those preemie onesies.

When there was that one brief moment when he wanted to hold his sister and even give her a kiss.

The honor to get to capture these sweet, intimate moments is never lost on me. If you are in the midst of this goodness, don’t wait—let’s capture your beautiful days right now ✨

Breaking my unintended posting hiatus with this favorite photo from a recent branding session. We had the best time capturing different interesting backgrounds to complement her outfits. More to come!

The location choice for this fun senior shoot earlier this year was Capitol Park - always a great option for getting a variety of looks in one place. And speaking of variety, Tanner had the best t-shirt wardrobe!

This is one of the many past family sessions that never got its chance in the spotlight!

I’ve been fortunate enough to photograph this family every year for 6 or 7 years now. They have a fun tradition of picking a new mural location each time. You can just feel the joy this family has… my cheeks always hurt from laughing when I leave them.

If you’ve ever wanted your own mural session, let’s chat! I have sooo many fun options for you!

It’s always a treat to work with returning clients! The last time we worked together was back in 2010 and I’m so glad our paths crossed again at just the right time to capture some new photos. These updated shots really reflect her inner light, don’t you think? I’m excited to see these out in the world!
