The Full Flower Moon peaks on May 1, 2026 at 11:23 AM (Mountain Time). The name comes from Indigenous seasonal naming systems that described what was happening on the land rather than assigning symbolic meaning. By early May, flowering is widespread across much of North America—wildflowers, fruit trees, and early crops are all active. Early American colonists recorded these names, and they were later popularized by sources like the Old Farmer’s Almanac.

This point in the season reflects a shift into stable growth. Soil temperatures have risen enough to support planting, frost risk is easing in many regions, and daylight hours are long enough to sustain consistent development. Gardens and fields are being established, and pasture conditions are improving as grasses come in. This is when agricultural work becomes steady rather than tentative, and outcomes begin to depend on what has already been put in motion.

Other traditional names for this moon, including Milk Moon and Corn Planting Moon, reflect the same conditions. They point to increased dairy production as grazing improves and to the timing of early crop planting. The naming is practical, tied to observable changes and necessary work, not abstraction.

The Full Flower Moon marks a point where spring is no longer emerging. Growth is visible, conditions are set, and the direction of the season is established.
