Frederic Man Arrested After Resisting Troopers

OTSEGO COUNTY, MI: Donald Dorsten, 51, of Frederic was arrested Thursday evening after allegedly driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest.

Preliminary investigation indicates that on June 11 at approximately 10:45 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Ga***rd Post observed a vehicle parked on the shoulder of the southbound I-75 ramp at exit 290 with its hazard lights activated. Troopers stopped to check on the driver.

Troopers observed open intoxicants in the center console and the driver showed signs of intoxication. When troopers ordered the driver out of the vehicle, he refused to comply. Dorsten grabbed the steering wheel and braced his feet on the door frame in an attempt to prevent troopers from removing him. After a brief struggle, troopers were able to handcuff Dorsten and take him into custody.

Dorsten was arraigned on June 12 in the 87-A District Court in Otsego County on the following charges:
Two counts: Police Officer – Resisting and Obstructing
One count: Operating While Intoxicated
One count: Open Intoxicants in a Vehicle
One count: Operate Without Security

His next court appearance is scheduled for June 18 at 1:30 p.m.

West Branch Post troopers responded to a 911 call for a domestic assault at a home in the village of Whittemore on 6/9/26 about 3:30 PM.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the suspect, a 34-year-old Whittemore man, allegedly struck the victim in the face in front of their neighbor. The victim reported to the neighbor that her boyfriend has been physically assaulting her for the past twenty-four hours. When troopers arrived, the suspect pulled the victim into the residence and refused to answer the door. The victim eventually exited the residence.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. Her injuries included a broken orbital bone, nose, and a severe bruise on her head. She reported the suspect would continually push on the bruise to cause her more pain.

The suspect was taken into custody and lodged at the Iosco County Jail for Felony Domestic Assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder.

SWET Search Warrant Leads to Seizure of Narcotics and Fi****ms; Two Hartford Men Arrested

VAN BUREN COUNTY, MICH. Detectives with the Southwest Enforcement Team (SWET), along with the Michigan State Police (MSP) Emergency Support Team, Paw Paw Post troopers and K-9 Unit, and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), executed a residential search warrant June 11 at a residence on Marion Avenue in Hartford. The search warrant stemmed from a months-long narcotics trafficking investigation.

Investigators seized one long gun, five pistols, a pistol-to-rifle conversion kit, and brass knuckles. One firearm had been reported stolen, and another was determined to be a privately manufactured "ghost gun" that lacked a serial number.

Investigators also seized approximately 26 grams of co***ne hydrochloride (HCL), digital scales, drug-packaging materials, and items commonly used in the manufacturing and distribution of controlled substances.

A 27-year-old Hartford man was arrested and lodged at the Van Buren County Jail on multiple felony charges, including receiving and concealing stolen property, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession with intent to deliver co***ne.

A 62-year-old Hartford man was also arrested and lodged at the Van Buren County Jail on multiple felony charges, including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession with intent to deliver co***ne, maintaining a drug house, and resisting and obstructing a police officer.

SWET and its law enforcement partners remain committed to investigating and prosecuting narcotics trafficking to help ensure the safety and well-being of communities throughout southwest Michigan.

Residents are encouraged to report suspected drug activity by emailing [email protected] or by leaving an anonymous message on the SWET tip line at 269-982-8664.

Each year in southwest Michigan, more lives are lost to fatal drug overdoses than to fatal car crashes and homicides combined. Individuals seeking information about substance use treatment services may contact Southwest Michigan Behavioral Health at 800-781-0353.

SWET is funded in part by the Michigan High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) program and the U.S. Department of Justice Byrne Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program and is administered by the Michigan State Police.
