Title: Ancient Mermaid Remembers the Great Wave 🌊

I am working with the idea of mixing my skills more so that when I work on my art it satisfies me more fully. This piece is based on a drawing. The Mermaid is from my original sketch and made using the ancient method of RAKU pottery. Fired in a gas kiln and taking out while still red hot, placed in leaves for fire and smoke creating the blackened clay body and glaze variations. Finally, she was plunged into water to create the crackle that helps her ancient presence. The wood is a recycled platter that I painted on.. my impression of The Great Wave because when she was finally finished, I thought to myself, she looks like she witnessed the great wave!

Working on a painting based on an old song, most notably classic rock, but the song may go back as far as an English folk ballad somewhere before 1850. My finger is covering the first line of the song which may or may not show up on the canvas somehow 🙄 This is under painting… giving it a warm glow …. But the orange will not be as pronounced in the final. Tons to do….

I won an Honorable Mention Award at the latest juried exhibition at the Suntan Art Center!! My painting, Deep End, will be on display at the Suntan In St Petersburg Fl for the rest of this month!
