ThermaScout Prototype V1. Moving from concept to real greenhouse deployment

Back in October we introduced ThermaScout. a custom built aquatic thermal platform designed for environments where drones can’t safely operate. Today we get to share the next step in its development.

ThermaScout Prototype V1 has now been purpose built for Plantible Foods and their greenhouse operation in Eldorado TX. Their facilities stretch 1800 feet, and they needed a way to capture accurate thermal data directly from the duckweed leaf surface. Not overhead readings. True leaf level information that supports research, growth optimization, and day to day decisions.

This version of ThermaScout was engineered specifically for their environment and workflow. From stability on duckweed covered ponds to the mounting system for the thermal sensor, every detail was shaped around their needs. Seeing the platform run inside their greenhouse marks a strong milestone from the concept we first announced in October.

I want to thank Matthew and Tony at Plantible Foods for the opportunity to design and build this system for their operation. This collaboration is exactly what drives projects like this forward.

This is Prototype V1, and development continues. Future refinements and expanded capabilities will be driven by real world performance inside their greenhouse.

🚀 Introducing the all-new ThermaScout by DrōnIt Aerial Services

Innovation doesn’t stop in the sky. We’re bringing our thermal imaging expertise to the water. The ThermaScout is a custom-built aquatic thermal platform designed for precise environmental and agricultural data collection where drones can’t safely operate, like inside greenhouses or over open ponds.

Built in-house by DrōnIt Aerial Services, ThermaScout combines smart engineering, stable aquatic mobility, and high-resolution thermal sensors to deliver accurate, repeatable results. This is real-world innovation for real-world challenges.

Stay tuned as we put ThermaScout through its final tests before deployment.

🚁 Kerrville Blackhawk Collision – The Truth vs. The Story You Heard 🚁

On July 7th, during flood rescues near Kerrville, a Texas Army National Guard Blackhawk helicopter collided with a DJI Mavic 3E drone.

The first story you heard?
That it was a “rogue” civilian drone, proof that we need to ban certain drones.

The truth?
It wasn’t rogue. It wasn’t a hobbyist.
✅ It was a law enforcement drone, flown by a Texas state trooper.
✅ The flight was authorized and coordinated as part of the state’s search-and-rescue mission.
✅ The crash happened during an automated Return-to-Home sequence — not reckless flying.

Why the confusion?
The City of Kerrville’s public statements left out key facts. No correction was ever issued. That silence allowed lobbyists and political talking points to take over the story.

The reality:
• This wasn’t about “foreign drones.”
• It was about coordination failures and over-reliance on automation without visual line of sight.
• No FAA or NTSB public report has been released yet, despite multiple public records requests.

FACT vs. NARRATIVE
Narrative: Rogue civilian drone hit a helicopter.
Fact: State police drone with mission approval.

Narrative: Shows why Chinese drones are unsafe.
Fact: Cause was pilot procedure, not where the drone was made.

Narrative: No coordination with airspace.
Fact: Flight was integrated into state SAR operations.

At DrōnIt Aerial Services, we believe facts matter — especially when they shape public opinion and aviation policy. Manned and unmanned aircraft can safely share the sky, but only with proper training, communication, and transparency.

🐾 Search Mission Update – Dixie Is Home Safe! 🐾
Late last night, we received the wonderful news that Dixie, the missing German Shepherd we assisted in searching for yesterday evening, has been found and is now back home safe with her family.

DrōnIt Aerial Services was proud to support the search effort near FM 2288 and San Angelo State Park, conducting aerial grid searches using both high-resolution visual and thermal drones. We flew multiple low-altitude missions across rugged terrain and dense brush, doing everything we could to assist in locating her.

While Dixie made it home through the grace of perseverance and community support, we’re grateful to have played a part in the effort. These are the moments that remind us why we do what we do, not just for the technology, but for the people (and pets) it serves.

Thank you to everyone who stayed alert, shared posts, and helped spread the word. Dixie is home, and that’s what matters most. ❤️

📢 Search Mission Support – Missing German Shepherd “Dixie”
Yesterday evening, DrōnIt Aerial Services assisted a Buffalo Heights resident in the search for his missing German Shepherd, Dixie, who has been missing since July 3. She was last seen along FM 2288, between Bison Trail and Grey Wolf Lane, on the state park side of the road.

Search operations were conducted between 6:30 PM and 9:00 PM, beginning from our initial landing zone just outside the entrance to San Angelo State Park, across from Grey Wolf Lane. From there, we deployed one of our high-resolution drones to conduct low-altitude grid searches over the wooded areas near her last known location.

As daylight faded, we transitioned to thermal imaging, launching our infrared drone to re-fly the area and search for heat signatures through the dense vegetation. After completing that area, we moved to the park entrance across from Bison Trail and continued thermal search operations.

Flights concluded at sunset when visual line of sight could no longer be maintained, in strict adherence to FAA Part 107 regulations.

We briefed the pet owner at the conclusion of our operation and will be reviewing all collected imagery to identify any possible leads.

🔍 How You Can Help

If you’re in the Buffalo Heights or San Angelo State Park area, keep an eye out for a loose German Shepherd that may be hiding in shaded or brush-covered areas.
If you see her, please do not chase or call out — instead, note the time and location and contact the owner or post in local community groups so the search team can respond appropriately.

Every set of eyes matters. Let’s help bring Dixie home. 🐾

🚁 A Message to All Drone Operators 🚁
PLEASE GROUND YOUR DRONES
UNTIL FLOOD SEARCH AND RESCUE OPERATIONS ARE COMPLETE.

Today, a private drone collided with a rescue helicopter over Kerr County, forcing it to make an emergency landing. A vital aircraft is now out of commission right in the middle of an active emergency response.

Let that sink in.

This was entirely preventable.

As the City of Kerrville said:

“TFRs are not suggestions. They are federal airspace rules designed to protect lives.”

This kind of reckless, selfish flying is beyond unacceptable — it's criminal. You're not just risking property; you’re risking human lives. Every second counts in a flood search, and now first responders are grounded because of someone's ignorance.

As a FAA-certified drone pilot, I’m disgusted. This behavior damages everything we’ve worked for as a professional drone community. It puts a black eye on all of us who follow the rules, respect the airspace, and support emergency crews when they need it most.

If you’re flying during an active emergency without proper clearance, you are part of the problem.

We don’t need more “cool footage.” We need accountability.
We need drones grounded.
And we need respect for first responders.

📣 If you fly a drone; learn the rules or lose your right to fly.
📣 If you see someone flying irresponsibly; report it.

We can’t afford this kind of stupidity.

💧 Free Aerial Inspections After the Flood 💧
To my neighbors in San Angelo and surrounding areas —

The recent flooding has hit hard. I’ve seen the damage firsthand — homes surrounded, land washed out, roads buckled. If you’re unsure what kind of impact your property took — especially in areas you can’t see from the ground — I want to help.

I’m offering free aerial inspections for anyone affected by the storm. No catch. No charge. Just a bird’s-eye view of your property so you can see what you’re dealing with and make informed decisions moving forward.

This isn’t about business. This is about being part of a community that looks out for one another. If I can ease even a small part of your burden right now, I will.

If you or someone you know needs a flight, reach out. I’ll do my best to cover as many as I can.

🚨 Flooding in San Angelo – Turn Around, Don’t Drown! 🚨

This morning’s storms dumped a serious amount of rain on San Angelo, and several roads across the area are underwater. We took to the skies to document the flooding from above — and the view is a sobering reminder of just how fast water can rise.

⚠️ Please be careful out there. Even a few inches of water can sweep a vehicle off the road.
If you see water crossing the roadway: Turn Around, Don’t Drown.

📸 Check out these aerial shots we captured this morning. Seeing it from above really puts things into perspective.

Stay safe, San Angelo!
