Abigail Boatwright Communications

Abigail Boatwright Communications I'm a freelance writer and photographer specializing in editorial content, photography and copywriting. You want to clearly communicate with your audience.

My wheelhouse includes equine publications, lifestyle magazines and small businesses. I’m an expert at aligning my writing to your brand’s voice and crafting a compelling message that delivers results. As an experienced freelance writer and photographer with a lifelong devotion to horses, I produce award-winning articles and photos for more than a dozen equine publications. While my wheelhouse is

western equine publications, I also write for regional and lifestyle magazines, websites and blogs. In addition to crafting content, I’m also a copywriter for a variety of platforms. I’m deadline-driven, meticulous about grammar, and enjoy collaborating to achieve just the right end product. I'm a skilled photographer for the equine industry, and my photos have appeared on 24 magazine covers and counting, but I also photograph humans for editorial, commercial and portraits,

I was a horse-crazy little girl, and grew up reading horse magazines, spurring on my passion to learn and contribute to the publications I work with today. I showed Quarter Horses as a youth and while in college, competed on the Texas A&M Equestrian Team. When I’m not working, I love spending time with my husband Zach and our children Wilder and Felicity.

Honored to have my photo from a high desert branding featured alongside some iconic images in this post from Official American Paint Horse Association! This was a memorable work trip for APHA, and my first branding to get to attend. It remains one of my favorite photos that I took while on staff at the Paint Horse.

Twenty years ago I completed a media internship at American Quarter Horse Association. It was the absolute highlight of my life—I’d dreamed of working at the Quarter Horse Journal since I was 12 years old, and at 22 I got that experience. Living in Amarillo for the summer and going to my cubicle at AQHA headquarters every day, attending ranch rodeos on the weekends, meeting my trainer idols and horse crushes (looking at you, Shining Spark), and experiencing the AQHA community from a different perspective shaped my career more than anything outside of choosing to attend Texas A&M. I am forever grateful for the mentoring I received, friends I made, connections forged, experiences gathered and the chance to try out a career before doing the thing for real, four months later after I graduated. Thank you for my very first magazine cover. And thank you everyone who put up with me that summer. 😆

Artificial intelligence is the No 1. hot-button topic in my world right now. So many people are discussing AI: how it’s being used, good and bad effects on the environment, students, business, technological leaps, how to tell when it’s being used—so much.

I’ve also had numerous behind-the-scenes conversations about AI with clients and colleagues. If you know me on a personal level, my stance on generative AI is clear, but I wanted to share my thoughts, and why I feel this way.

I wish I could be in two places at once: my kids’ school events and dance recital, and the American Horse Publications equine media conference. I’ve attended 11 AHP conferences during my time as an equine media professional. I hope the attendees this year have fun and learn a lot, and good luck to the Equine Media Award winners! I miss y’all! Here’s some photos from past years. 😍
