The story of Castello di Santa Severa

The castle was built around the 10th-11th century (even if its structure, as we know it today, dates back to the 14th century) and the first written reference dates back to 1068, the year in which the castle and the church were donated by Count Gerardo di Galeria to the Abbey of Farfa , which in turn donated it in 1130, at the request of the antipope Anacletus II , to the Basilica of San Paolo fuori le mura .

Between the 13th and 14th centuries the castle passed to various noble families, among which we can remember the Papareschi , the Orsini and the Anguillara . It was precisely in this period that the rectangular plan with square corner towers developed, connected by a bridge to the "Castle Tower", a circular tower (dating back to around the 9th century and renovated in the 16th-17th century).

Capturing the Beauty of Florence, Oregon: A Road Trip That Transformed My Photography

Road trips have always been a source of inspiration for me, but my journey to Florence, Oregon, was something special. The winding coastal highways, the misty forests, and the vast dunes stretched before me like an endless canvas waiting to be captured. This trip not only refreshed my spirit but also deepened my understanding of photography in ways I hadn’t anticipated.

A Photographer’s Paradise
Florence is a dreamland for photographers. From the rugged coastline to the shifting sand dunes and historic lighthouses, every scene offered a new challenge and opportunity. The ever-changing light along the Oregon coast forced me to adapt, experimenting with different exposures and compositions to truly capture the mood of each moment.

One of the most memorable spots was the **Heceta Head Lighthouse**, perched dramatically against the cliffs. The way the golden hour light bathed the lighthouse and reflected off the ocean taught me patience—waiting for the perfect lighting made all the difference in my shots.

Learning to Embrace the Elements
Unlike controlled studio environments, nature is unpredictable, and Florence taught me to embrace it. Coastal fog rolled in unexpectedly, creating ethereal, moody landscapes that I had never worked with before. Instead of fighting it, I learned to incorporate the mist into my compositions, giving my photos a cinematic depth.

The Oregon Dunes presented another creative challenge. The way the wind sculpted patterns in the sand, shifting constantly, reminded me of the importance of timing. I experimented with long exposures to capture the movement of the sand, giving my images a dynamic, almost surreal quality.

A New Perspective on Storytelling
Before this trip, I often focused on capturing single, striking images. But Florence taught me to think in sequences—to tell a story through my photography. The journey itself, from the winding roads to small coastal towns, became just as important as the final destination. Documenting these moments gave my photography a new sense of depth and narrative.
