One of my keys to a relaxed newborn session that also leads to more meaningful and natural images is this:
Arrive early.
I always arrive about 30 minutes before the session start time. Why is this?
Because I like to reduce my client's stress in every way I can, I arrive early to take that stress of session preparation off their shoulders.
So when I arrive, I'm not just scouting for good light - I'm also tidying and decluttering the spots I'm going to use, and helping them pull together outfits that will photograph beautifully.
Because I was postpartum once too, and I know what it feels like to have that extra help.
How does this lead to better images? Because the more stress I can reduce for my clients(especially postpartum!), the more calm and relaxed they feel, which just naturally leads to better images. And that warm-up, get-to-know-you time before I pull out my camera really helps, too.
