18. 🥹❤️ Somehow my baby became an actual adult, which feels rude and frankly a little unnecessary.

Watching you grow into the smart, hilarious, beautiful, strong-willed girl you are has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. I’m so damn proud of you and everything you’ve accomplished.

Now please stop growing up. I’m just a girl trying to cope with the fact that my girl is 18. 😭😂

I’ve been pretty quiet here lately.

My mother passed away a couple weeks ago, and grief is a strange thing. It’s complicated. It doesn’t always match the relationship you had, or the one you wish you’d had. It just… exists. It also brings up old and unresolved feelings. My dad passed away two years ago and part of me hasn’t accepted that and hasn’t grieved that loss either.

One thing I keep thinking about is photographs. I found myself digging through my office looking for the gallon size, torn ziplock bag full of 5x7 and 4x6’s from my childhood I was sent. It’s crazy how that felt like a million years ago, but just yesterday all at the same time.

My mother always had albums. Boxes of loose prints. Framed photos covering the walls. She documented everything.

My dad loved photos too. He was incredibly sentimental. He always carried a couple of pictures in his wallet, one of me and one of my daughter. I’m sure they stayed there until the day he died. Hoping those photos were always with him means more to me now than it ever did then. I miss him every day.

It’s made me realize that photographs aren’t really about perfection. They’re about connection. They’re little pieces of our lives that continue to exist after we’re gone, carrying stories and memories that our minds can’t always hold onto forever.

Print them. Put them in albums. Frame them. Keep them in your wallet if that’s your thing.

One day, they’ll mean more than you could ever imagine.

Today, in just about an hour, all the late nights, caffeine filled mornings, summer classes, crazy hard work, determination, and sacrifices (RIP social life) led to this moment.

Watching you grow into the intelligent, kind, driven young woman you are has been one of life’s greatest privileges! This diploma is more than a piece of paper; it’s proof of your resilience, your dedication, and the incredible future waiting for you! You have worked your ass off to get to where you are, and as you walk across the stage and receive your diploma, I hope you feel as proud of yourself as we are of you!

As you step into this next chapter, I hope you always trust yourself, stay curious, be bold, take chances, and remember that your worth is never measured by grades, achievements, or titles. The world needs exactly who you are.
