Still love exploring San Diego. There’s always something new to discover, such as this gem in Bay Park above Mission Bay. The trees, the woods, the views, oh my!

The crows were having a feast, and a sneaky squirrel came and stole a piece of cracker. Right in front of the crows and God and everybody! Who does that? Mr. Sneaky himself.

Be sure to check out the beauty of the fountain now with the glorious ornamental pear trees in bloom! It is a sight not to mess. Thanks, Teri Egenberger, for our recent photo walk there!

Walking up the El Prado towards the bridge leading to the Inez Grant Parker Memorial Rose Garden, you’ll find a gorgeous fountain. The Bea Evenson Fountain is one of the most acclaimed landmarks of the park. Both children and adults gravitate towards it. You’ll often see performers in the vicini...

Romancing Balboa Park

I was so worried yesterday. I had gone out to the park to go sit at one of my favorite areas to watch the birds and listen to music before going for a walk. But every single space along the curb was taken all the way down Balboa Drive. I was heartbroken. Wrong: I was seething. It was only the first day of summer, and was this what all of us had to look forward to? Nowhere to go for a little tranquility, meditating on the goodness of God? But today I went back to the park, delighted to find my companions of just a few days ago: An Oregon Junco, several western bluebirds, lots of baby squirrels and about a jillion crows (25 to be exact.) I went for an hour long walk, blessed by all the trees with long branches and twisted trunks, gorgeous magnolia flowers, too. So it will all be okay….as long as I stay away from the beach on weekends. Maybe simply stay home and do all that writing I’ve got to do.

Celebrating my birthday in installments! First outing, on my actual birthday, was at the one-of-a kind Yellow Deli out in Valley Center. Surrounded by trees and birds of all kinds, I was in heaven. Later, we drove up to the lazy H Ranch where there are tall eucalyptus trees that are probably some of the oldest in the state. They also have hummingbird feeders attached to the windows of the restaurant where we had a brownie sundae. The hummingbirds are practically in your face as you sit at the window. Nothing like it. I’ll add the bird pictures later to this post.

So many robins, so little time! These fine-looking fellows and gals were gathered at our bird bath to drink up the rainwater. The American Robin has been seen far more in the last couple of years here in San Diego than in past years. It's as if they got the memo announcing that San Diego has spring-like weather much of the year. They can come here to winter for the south until the snow thaws in the Midwest and Eastern U.S. I love robins. To me, they symbolize spring in the Midwest where I grew up in Kansas.

Winter in San Diego this year has been stormy. This is a photo from last week, looking east from Shelter Island.
